    Good Attorneys

Over the past month on these boards, I have seen people with excellent attorneys as well as people with really bad ones. I think there are several critical factors that separate the two. For instance, when I arrived for the original consultation, we sat down and she gave DW and I the opportunity first to just tell what brought us in and what we hoped to accomplish. She took notes and was already reviewing the things she was writing. She explained the whole bk process, presented the fees, and asked a billion times if we had any questions. She has said if we had any, just to call or email. I have taken her up on that and she is extremely timely, if she doesn't get the phone, she returns the call in 10 minutes with the answer. Also, she has a really good paralegal that entered all of our info in 3 days.

I don't know if we could, but it would be nice for so many of the new people here to read about good attorneys in their area of town. It would be nice if there was a sticky for this information. Just a thought.

Hey, I completely understand. Hence, I said I don't know if this could be done. I could see atty's coming on here or something trying to turn it into an advertising board or something. Just seems like there are a lot of bad bk atty's out there and the good ones are far and few in between. But, I guess that can be said with any atty. ;) Thanks!

I think you should go with your gut feeling. I should have seen the signs of what was to come from the first few meetings with my attorney, but I was so overwhelmed, had to get it done without daycare and didn't have hours to spend with several attorneys. It seems to be turning out okay, but only (!) because of the help and advice I've received in this forum. Having calls returned in a timely manner is a good sign, though....

I went with my gut feeling. After meeting with almost every atty in my city and being disappointed with the results, I ended up going with the one that took time to talk to me and answered my questions. His staff was also excellent and knew a lot which also helped me through the process. Even now if I email or call with a question, someone from his office will email or call me back within a couple of hours. Having heard the horror stories of bad attys and having had a horrible divorce atty I feel fortunate and will just say to trust your instincts when it comes to choosing a decent bankruptcy atty.

We should have gone to several attorneys before we picked one, but didn't. We picked a name off the Internet. In the initial meeting she was very charming and sympathetic to our plight, so we gave her a retainer. It was only in later meetings that she showed herself to be a Ms. Hyde under Dr. Jekyl's demeanor.

I feel to a certain extent they are all that way. as far as actually caring? they don't. They do put on a good sympathy act for business. The Jekyl demeanor I kind of picked up by the replies over the phone with the rush you out of here, I am above you & you are bothering me attitude.

I did especially like the few with discreet ethics & those who offer good & caring advice before filing, especially for filers who have to stay afloat with ongoing health problems/bills.

I enjoyed my search because I met them all by phone before going to the office to check it out. There are some real nerds
