Quick question about homestead exemption

I've read so many conflicting claims my eyes are swimming.

Why do some places ay there's a $20,000 homestead exemption, others say something like $125,000, and on Michigan's state exemption it says only $3,500?

What's going on? Can someone explain this quickly to help me from confusing myself to death?

I also google exemptions for our state and every web site say a different thing.

Exemptions vary from state to state. You will need to look for your state exemptions. This can be done by a search on the web by putting in your state along with bankruptcy exemptions. Make sure your looking at the current exemptions (2008). Some states will also allow you to use fed. some won't. Our state Indiana only allows you to use our states exemptions.
