Hi - quick question if anyone has any experience with American Express. I have a zero balance and will keep it that way until filing...will AMEX automatically cancel my card even if I do not list it since it has a zero balance? Also, since my card is due in full every month...I did pay my balance off last month of about $1500. Will trustee question this and try to get it back to pay my other creditors? How does the trustee investigate preferential payments? Do they basically go off your checking statement? I am hoping to keep my AMEX through bk just because I have had it for years and years. But I am thinking that since AMEX checks your credit report every once and a while, they will see the bk & cancel anyways. Does anyone have any experience in keeping their AMEX through bk? Thanks!

my situation: I payed off my AMEX 1 day before filing. Since they were not listed as a creditor I did not have to document any payments to them (on the what creditor did you pay more than $600 question). Of course the trustee would know what I paid them because of the 2 months checking statements. My Trustee asked nothing about this payment.
Many have said AMEX cancelled them right away even with 0 balance. I've kept mine but who knows what will happen at a yearly/quarterly review by AMEX.May 2008: Filed Chapter 13
Jan 2010: Plan Amended and Confirmed! finally plan funds = total funds due!
Jul 2013: 5 years done! Trustee set to discharge! Woo hoooo!

Okay, thanks for the info. I know a few years ago I had a few AMEX cards and they lowered the limit on my Blue Card card because of something to do with my credit score (which was wrong at the time). I just ended up cancelling it because I was mad....but I have always kept a gold or platinum. I am wondering if it is better to just cancel my card now before filing and then after bk is done, reapply for another card in a few years? Or perhaps they never let you open another acct if you have bk on your credit.

yep, you are probably correct. All the years I had with them as a good card holder....just out the door I guess! I probably should not have paid them last month:-) ha ha. But of course I did not even know last month when I did pay them that I would even consider bk. But now I feel like I have no choice in the matter. I guess I was just hoping that perhaps amex would leave my card open since at a zero balance. oh well.
