How to cash out-of-state checks, MOs...

I have a few weeks to answer a suit, which I probably won't do. So I'm assuming a default judgement is headed my way. I'm thinking about closing my checking account soon. I'm selling off some things through the Internet and was wondering how I could cash out-of-state checks or money orders I might get as payment without a checking account? I know there are those check cashing places, but will they cash out-of-state checks? And a lot of money orders are fake. Do they cash money orders? Or are there better ways of doing this? Thanks!

Accept only USPS Money Orders and you can go to the post office and cash them.

Thanks, I never knew that the USPS money orders could be cashed at the Post Office. Do you know, if the Post Office can tell whether it's fake or not, when I go to cash it? I've heard there are a lot of fake money orders and I don't want to get stung and ship stuff before I can verify the money order. Thanks!

Stay away from Western Union. Unfortunately their products are some of the most widely counterfeited.

The document number is in their computer. You would be safe to cash them.

Thanks for all of your advice. I've had a checking account since I was 18, so I'm new to the world of cash and money orders. Thanks again!
