My creditors have been calling my mom's house and sending letters. They caim they want to work with me, lower my interest rate, reduce payments, reduce late fees etc. I guess anything to get their money. They have a phone number they want me to contact them at. What should I do? was just planning on wrtiting them a letter explaining my hard luck story, continuing with the minimal payments and laying low until I can declare bankruptcy (a few more months). If I call or contact them they will just want an avenue to pursue bill collection so why bother telling them anything, right?

If you're certain that BK is the way you'll have to go, stop paying the minimums and start saving for an attorney. If you're dealing with collection agencies, you can send each a letter telling them to 'cease and desist' all contact-they are required to listen. If you're dealing with original creditors, telling them you're heading for BK may not make them keep quiet. Probably best to let them know you're doing the best you can, but right now everything you have is going to living expenses and you'll let them know if things improve. Most of my information is from personal experience or HOURS and HOURS of online research. When you're searching online, keep in mind there is no guarantee that the info is completely up to date, and your situation is unique from anyone else's. Do your homework, and consult with an attorney so you can make an informed decision.
