Pissed- help me with tuition debt issue

I signed up for this one class through a local community college, but then changed my mind. I have taken classes thru this CC for years, and generally, if you don't pay tuition, you get dropped from the class.

Well, for some reason, this one time they didn't run drops. SO they keep sending me these damn tuition bills and insisting I have to pay it, since I never dropped the class myself. I NEVER attended the class and have NO INTENTION of paying this bill. I believe it's invalid.

THe girl at the tuition department insists that I agreed to some kind of pop up that says that I agree to drop or pay tuition. I think I would have made note of such a new and different policy, and anyway, I have a POP UP BLOCKER!

I've written multiple times that I have no intent on paying the bill, but they keep insisiting. I threatened to put it in my BK, but I realize it's likely not dischargeable, as it's EDUCATION debt.

Anyway, I don't want to put it in the BK anyway, since it's NOT FRIGGIN VALID (I know I"m supposed to put everything in the bk, but my real question is HOW DO I GET OUT OF THIS DEBT?)

PS_ This college has had a reputation of having crappy technology, so I am not surprised that they didn't "run drops" like they usually do (which the payments girl admitted to in an email).

I told her I am willing to take this to court, even.

I told her, if she send it to collections, I will dispute it as an invalid debt.

What else can I do? I guess this is more of a principal thing for me. It is simply not a valid debt.

On schedule F of your petition, when you add this debt you can put a check mark in the "disputed" column.

I work in higher education and until the fall 2008 semester, we had a system in place similar to your school... if you didn't show up for class, you were dropped; however, in the fall this changed. If you enrolled, that indicated your intent to attend. Whether or not a student actually showed up became your problem not the school's. Drops at our school are no longer automatic. I understand we were on the slow end to adopt this type of system, so it's no suprise to me to see this happen to you.

I wish I had something more to share, but I'm sure you're not alone in your frustration. Schools are trying to beef up their bottom line and this is one tool they are using to do it. At our school, students were notified many semesters in advance, sucks that yours didn't do that for you.

I know you can't get out of student loans via bk, but ALL education expenses too?

I believe you can discharge tuition, it is student Loans that is a problem.

They did not offer, nor extend you any type of loan or scholarship for this class, correct?

          I would list the debt.

You did not sign a promissory note or receive any funds to attend the class.

You simply made an agreement to pay for the class.

One thing you might worry about, the school may put a hold on your transcripts for not paying the debt, which might be a major headache to have released if you need to have the credits transferred to another university or enroll in another term.

Even though it will most likely be discharged, you will have to go through records and probably have to do a little work to get the hold released.
