My husband and i went to consult an atty last wednesday and im not sure if he is the one but my husband liked him. All he did was tell us the differance between ch 7 and ch 13 (which i new already) he said we qualify for ch7..(we are in alabama, family of 5, $45,513 income a year before deductions, and supposed to get child support $6200 per year but havnt seen it in ALONG time and attny didnt ask about it). My feeling is he wasnt much help. he just said dont pay any bills that we arent keeping ( not keeping a house and 1 car)and that all fees combined it would cost a total of $1330 to file. And to pay it before he would file.
We have a car that is 2 months behind and i am scared someone will show up to repo it in the middle of the night and the insurance is due, i can pay the ins. but it will be close. Should we go ahead and give the car back so as not to have to worry about that ins. payment and repo man?
Do you think the attny. should have talked with us more or is the lack of helpful info given to us the norm at free attny. consults?
He knows that my husband just changed jobs but he didnt say if we should wait to file until old income drops off, just after we pay his fees to bring in at least 2 current pay stubs and 2 years of tax records.
