So Many Questions

Hi, everyone. I've been lurking here, and it's wonderful that this is such a kind and supportive place. I've been reading the forums and they have answered many of my questions.

My husband and I, it appears, have no option but to file. We're working out how, when, and which chapter to file with an attorney. We're not behind on anything yet, but the debt is crushing and tenants in our rental property have stopped paying their rent. Over the next two months, we'll have gone through all of our savings and will definitely start falling behind. We're both self-employed and our businesses have just dried up, despite working night and day (literally--every day. I have had three days off in the past six months) to keep our heads above water. My health is suffering. The stress sometimes feels unbearable.

We have a young child (7). I'm not sure if we should leave the town or at least the school. I'm sure word will get out, and we don't want our child to suffer because kids are mean. Did anyone stay in the same town? Also, did you have problems with neighbors or friends because of it? I worry because my greatest concern is doing the best thing for my child. Thank you for any insight.

Leave town??? You gotta be kidding. Bk is not causing a 21st century "Trail of Tears".
You're going to discover that the vast majority of people have there own problems and are not worried about if you filed bk. Stop worrying about what others may or may not think and focus on improving your financial life. That's what is most important to the future of your 7 year old.

Once you make the decision that bk is the right thing to do, then you can stop worrying about all of the what-if things and do what is best for your family.

keepthefaith - you are a good Mom worrying about your child first. But I do not think it will get to the point that you are imagining.
Have you seen an attorney yet? That may help to understand the process, and get the process going. best to you and your family.
