You can use your debit card as credit for purchases, but as HHM had said, it is not reported to the credit bureaus. The good thing about a debit card is the money comes right out of your checking account, and you don't have to worry about monthly credit card bills.Originally posted by lace55 View PostIs a debit card thought of like a credit card. no it does not. A debit card is simply a convienence. It has a visa or mastercard logo on it so it will be accepted anywhere (unlike how some smaller banks and cu's ran things- no logo's, so if you were out of area- no use).Originally posted by lace55 View PostIs a debit card thought of like a credit card. Also- you get the fraud protection typically offered from a cc company- any fradulent purchases you would not be liable for.
Now if you're asking if your credit is run for a debit card- then yes.
Any bank (weather they tell your or not) will run a credit check when you apply to open an account and get a debit card. Reason being - they usually give you a small line of credit (persea) on the debit card that allows you to make a larger purchase than what's in the account.Filed Pro Se: 10/16/2009
