Would you mind telling me what a PREVIOUSLY-INSURED-BUT-INVOLUNTARILY-UNINSURED person is supposed to do with almost $90,000 in medical bills due to an EMERGENCY situation that resulted in MAJOR SURGERY ... a situation that could neither been ANTICIPATED NOR AVOIDED ... and credit cards were the only means of paying bills?

Go hungry? Not pay the house payment or power bill?

I am proud to say that NONE of our bills were EVER late until I because UNAVOIDABLY sick and almost DIED!! If there had been ANY OTHER OPTION to pay the bills, I would have, but there WAS NO OTHER WAY.

DH and I had PERFECT CREDIT until this happened. Don't you think THAT makes me sick now?!?

Well Lightning, that has been the cc companies reasoning for the high interest rates all along, Bankruptcies, collections, etc. etc.

Your right, why should they lower their rates, it is much easier to gouge the consumer than to get in a business that makes money the old fashioned way........EARN IT! It's hard to feel sorry for these companies when they AID (notice that I did not say CAUSE) alot of folks to overspend. I agree with you that it is the consumer who ultimately makes these choices, but the cc companies do everything in their power to entice the consumer to make these choices.

I admire your abstinence......you are an exception to the rule.

It must be nice to not have to worry about paying debts, to know you've got cash flowing out your (bleep) and others (In some cases) have it much worse then you do, due to others carelessness, intent or just plain ignorance.

I have never heard of this Lightning character, but what I am wondering is, why are you guys giving him anything at all to feed off of? Why don't you just ignore him? He's clearly an a..hole and that doesn't even have to be said. Is there not a way the moderator can ban him from the site? If not, I think it would be better if no one responded to him at all.

Well, since he's "Toeing the line" at the time, we'll let the twerp stick around...However, he was banned once before and I know he can be banned again...

In some way, he DOES offer information, but as usual, in his normally snide and condecending way. But in most cases, he just blabbers and most of us get a chuckle out of his blatherings.

I am often slightly ashamed that I let him get to me. My personal opinion is that he talks to much. i don't beleive all the stuff he spouts about how pious he is. He justs wants to sit on his throne (the toilet ) and judge others.
He won't say why he is here, he probably stumbled onto this forum by accident, becuase he has been kicked to the curb by other websites.
I suppose his house is made of glass (& I am sure paid off, because, to him it is a sin to borrow money.)

Well, it's very possible that he is actually not in good shape financially and doesn't want to admit it. Sometimes people think because they have a lot of credit cards, money, etc., that nothing bad can happen to them, and then they get knocked off that big ole high horse of theirs. I'm glad you guys feel that way, I was assuming from the posts that he was really upsetting people.

Wait until he gets in a car accident, and can't even wipe his own nose or behind, and someone takes all of his money, because HIS pious personality was at fault and behind the wheel.....

Lightning has the right to his/her opinion. I as most of you have been through so much to even let him/her bother me. His/her opinion is just too small to matter.

I find this forum is a valuable resource for people down and out and after reading Lightning's replies about 90% of it isn't much help. A small percentage of his threads are on the money (no pun intended).

Lightning keep making us laugh. Some of us could really use a good laugh with the way we currently feel.

cool: You forget, he doesn't drive very far because fuel is a nonrenewable resource. Shame on you Besides there is that tiny fine print all over his vehicle about interest rates, lawyer numbers, how soon he will file a lwasuit etc., against anyone that dares come in contact with his car, (because we know he wouldn't ever make a mistake, driving or not for it to be his fault) He has the only car he can leave unlocked with the motor running in the parking lot and no one mess with it, let alone steal it. He is this century's version of Scrooge, dust mites in the brain and all.
Yes, we all have opinions, yes, we all need a good laugh, part of that laugh comes from our responses back to him.

I have been paying close attention to the Tv, radio, & newsapaper about CC companies and gas companies. CC companies are constantly advertising about what great "deals" they have. Gas companies showed the following % of profits last quarter. Here is the problem:
EXXON 75%, SHELL 68% BP 34% AND CONOCO 89% EXXON REPORTED OVER 25 MILLION DOLLARS IN PROFITS

NOW TELL ME WHO IS TAKING ADVANTAGE OF WHO?


The poor, the elderly, the fixed income are the real losers. How can they sleep at night????????

In a way, this reminds me of the time when I was working security and one gurad complained about the recent tax bill. I asked what it was "$7,000" he replied.

"Wow!" I said. "What do you have? A 40 acre farm?"

"A 94 unit apartment complex"

"Huh? What with all the costs, losses and expenses, what do you make a year?"

"About $250,000"

"And you're complaining about $7K? My mother makes $$23K a year and paid $1200. Man, don't you EVER complain to me about the taxes, you make 10 TIMES what my mother makes and yet you complain? Sheesh!"

I never get mad at people who make a bundle. Education, lucky streaks, good fortune, it could have happen to all of us. But, if they live nicely and then complain about the expense of living such, expect a smart smack across the mental jaw from me.

A Bk attorney that we consulted with complained about paying $23,000 in taxes last year. That was just shy of what we made in 2004 for 2 adults working!

It is true that there are plenty of limitations on what can be earned while the expenses have a will of there own, and there is no perfect answer for that. The things we 'should' do are not always realistic.
