When I filed my CH 7, I started receiving tons of offers from solicitors who apperently obtained my name & address from the BK court. Everything from secured credit cards to car loans. You'll be paying some high interest for a while; not much you can do about that. Secured credit cards are a good start, I think.
As for what you can expect next, after you file and either you or your lawyer gives each creditor your petition number, by law they cannot contact you in any way about your debt. So the creditor harassment will stop. Any repos, foreclosures, or garnishments are put on hold. The creditors' meeting is usually uneventful. Most creditors don't even show. Are you giving up a home in your BK? If so, of course you'll want to secure a place to rent soon. I'm sure everything will go just fine. Some debts are not dischargeable, such as child support, alimony, court-imposed fines related to a criminal conviction, criminal restitution, and student loans. There are probably a few others I haven't listed here. Everybody else you can pretty much tell to kiss your fanny!
