    can I keep using my checking account?

    I will be filing in june or july;

    I do have $2500 on my saving.

    Will this money survive on my savings until and after I file bk?

    what I hear around here is that I need to spend it. Can I cash out. and save somewhere?

    And I believe I have around $1500 cash hiding somewhere I just cannot find it seriously; my level of organization is near zero(Few weeks ago I found inside of old shoe an envelope with $350.

    If I have cash, do I need to spend it until file?

    Depends on how much cash your state allows you to exempt.

      I believe you were in Michigan and you rent, correct?

      With the federal exemptions you can keep up to $11,200 (double if married). That is your wildcard and the unused portion of the homstead exemption.

        It probably makes the most sense to spend whatever cash you have laying around except for what might be exempted in your state. Just make sure that you can prove where it got spent, or else the presumption of abuse rears it's ugly head.

          Cash on hand must be claimed whether it's in the bank or the back of your closet. Talk to your attorney about whether you can exempt it or whether you need to spend it down on living expenses.
