IF it makes you feel any better.
We have gone 3 years trying to save up enough money to file.
    Always one thing after another.

Took about 2 years before any of the debt collectors actually went to court.
We've got 3 judgements against us now, but they haven't acted on them.
There would be 2 more, but the creditors that filed for them never followed through with the paperwork after getting the default rulings.

    Just hang in there.
After a while most of them even give up on calling. Though that takes a year or more.
    7/01/10 - filed!
    11/20/10 - discharged and closed

That does make me feel better. I also read your other post about finally filing. It's nice to know that others go through the same things.

I'm glad your journey will be nearing the end soon! Good Luck to you!!

Glad my post helped a little.
Things will happen, when they are meant to happen.

It's actually a good thing it's taken this long.
If we would have filed when we wanted to, we would be carrying about $8000 in unforseen medical bills.
So, it is something of a good thing it has taken this long.

My only fear with waiting longer is that the creditors have called my MIL once and my FIL once. I guess we'll have to start answering calls, but I know the longer it's been since we've paid, the nastier they'll get on the phone.

They can get as nasty as they want.
When they call, you hold the power. All you have to do is hang up.
Let the answering machine get the phone, and don't even worry about talking to them.

If you are worried about them calling other people to find you, make sure the message on your ansering machine says who you are, so they know they have the correct number.
Answer occasionally and tell them you don't have the money to pay, then hang up.

Really, after a while, you get numb to it, and it just kind of becomes routine.
It gets annoying sometimes hearing the phone ring, then no message, then a minute later it rings again.
Just turn the ringer off then.
