I just logged onto Pacer, and did a search for my attorney. My attorney has filed over 6,000 cases that are registered on Pace. I now have a bill of $84, and I didn't even feel like I saw anything.

You have to be very careful using pacer..... especially bringing up other accounts besides yours.
Call the pacer office and let them know you put in your attorneys name and it brought up 6,000 petitions he had file and that was not your intention.
Let them know you only were interested in your file......Hopefully they will refund your money....
Check on pacer how to search your own account without it costing you an arm and a leg..... always go under your SS#..... or case number.... not your attorneys name...Minny

I learned quickly, but I didn't know my case number, and am strangely reluctant to type my social security number. Live and learn, and I will contact them about my mistake.Filed..................03/31/06

All cases are brought up by case # or SS# - it is a secured site so using your SS is safe.....

When you pull up an attny by name, that first page you get with a listing of all the cases they've filed by date, that one web page can equal 50 billable pages or more with PACER.
I looked at a couple people's case filings to see how their docs looked. Printed those out. That's still 8 cents a page. After that, I had a bright idea. Save the cases to file so I could reference them easily. When you do that, PACER charges double per page. So instead of 8 cents/page, the files I saved were 16 cents/page.
Last time I checked my bill, it was $134. My bank account should be getting dinked any time now as I gave PACER my Debit Card for payment.
Yepper. You gotta be careful at PACER. But I did learn a lot that was helpful in knowing what to expect in the Court here.Filed Ch 7 - 09/06

I get everything you are saying regarding social security number. I fully understand the concept, but given a choice it is not my got to number for identification. Had I been aware of the repercussions I would have chosen it.Filed..................03/31/06

Actually, they aren't allowing Soc Sec numbers to be shown on PACER. All I've seen in filings is the last for digits.
Soc Sec numbers are written XXX-XX-1234. That's the way it shows on PACER.
So our actual SS #'s won't be out there for other Yahoo's like us
who learn about PACER to see.

6000 cases? Your in fine hands, you chose someone who knows the system, your going to be fine. Hey, got any exotics or highline cars you have to clear out?? Assets are always for sale from these Trustee's and I am looking for another summer ride??? I have a toy in the garage, thats included in my bk, but don't think I should revive until my case is closed.Originally posted by time4cakeI just logged onto Pacer, and did a search for my attorney. Check out this case in Missouri, 05-42437-659, it is my favorite, I know the guy. If we can file 7's so can you. Don't want to hear any of this 13 shit; We both bought cars at Springfield Motorcars, the Ferrari and Lamborghini dealership in Springfield Mo. We both picked up on a saturday morning, he bought a white Coutach, and I had bought a Ferrari 348 spyder. We tore it up pretty bad back to St Louie. Those were the days, never forgot all those gals that flashed the hooters in the school bus we got stuck alongside.Last edited by scammer; 04-03-2006, 11:53 AM.

So, if you want to use pacer to see how others filed cases in your state, how can you narrow down a search so you don't run up $100 bills?*** THIS IS NOT LEGAL ADVICE--ONLY A LAWYER CAN PROVIDE THAT. ***

By attny name,............. The problem is, when you enter an attny's last name, you can get 3,4 or more choices to select from. Sometimes when you enter the attny's exact name, you can get 2 or 3 choices to select from.
If the attny hasn't filed many cases, the webpage that's a list of client cases won't be many billable pages. But, like Lost's attny who's handled 6000 cases, that one webpage can be 45, 50, or more billable pages. That's just the list of client's names and dates of the BK's that attny filed.
If you go to your Court's website, you can find the numbering system there for the territory your Court covers. But, going by number is hit and miss at best whether you'll find a case similar to yours. The only way you get to see how the docs were filed and what all was listed is by selecting the Documents History. There's on link that will open a list of everything filed on closed cases. But, again, that may be 30+ billable pages.
There's really no way to find a case similar to yours, directly. It's kinda hit and miss. And that's where you start to run up the money.Filed Ch 7 - 09/06
