What does a BK cost under the new law?

Can anyone give me an idea of what a Chapter 7 BK cost under the new law? It would be in Arizona. It should be a pretty straight forward BK since the person has no assets, no house and makes under the median income.

The filing fee for Ch 7 is $299. You have to get Credit Counseling, pre BK, and get a Cert. That runs about $50, give or take. Then there's post BK Debtor Education that must be completed prior to discharge. Fees for that range from about $20-$50 depending on who you use.

Here's a recent thread where people discussed how much they've paid their attnys:

    Filed Ch 7 - 09/06
    Discharged - 12/2006
Officially Declared No Asset - 03/2007
    Closed - 04/2007

I am not an attorney. My comments are based on personal experience and research. Always consult an attorney in your area to address concerns related to your particular situation.

My entire BK cost $2,350.00, plus several hairs off my head, and the other hairs turning from a brown color to a grey color. This cost included filing fees, attorney fees and the credit counseling fees. Hair restoration not included.

Most Chapter 13's in this area run 2K-3K with attorney. Most Chapter 7's in this area are running 1300-2000 I'm told. 7's are cheaper than 13's.
        Chapter 13 Filed 4/03/06  341 Meeting Complete 5/11/06 :yes2:
        Plan Confirmation 6/16/06 :yahoo:
        Discharged: 1/5/2010 :yahoo::yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:

Depending on income, and if you are able to or not, you may qualify to have the Filing Fee waived or be able to pay it in installments.

I thought they did away with the payment plan option under the new law?

You have to apply for it in advance, but you can pay the filing fee in installments.

This link was obviously before the fees increased in April, but it's still New Law info.

                payment plans

Nope... still have payment plan option under new law. I used it. And I'm glad I filed when I did because it was only $274. Fees jumped up again about 1-2 weeks after I filed.
                Filed Pro-se: 01/18/06
                341 meeting: 02/14/2006

                Discharge: 06/13/2006
                Closed: 06/21/2006

                Credit cards

06/25/06, reopened a Discover that I closed before my bk, $1500 limit
July 2006, Target Redcard $200 limit
August 2006, Hooters MC $1750 limit

Actually, the $274 filing fee for a Ch 7 held until April 9th or 10th. We hired our attny the end of March. He knew we wouldn't make the old fee filing date so we paid $299 then.
