    $300 to go bk

My friend went bk 05/05 and her lawyer fee was only $300......I'm sure rates have gone up a bit since then but 2000 seems like to much.....

We just paid $2K for a Ch 7. Our attny usually charges $1250 for a Ch 7, but we have "complications". We recently moved so we have the outa state issues to deal with under the New Law. Also, we aren't your typical family. We have a dependent elderly parent living with us as well.
    Filed Ch 7 - 09/06
    Discharged - 12/2006
Officially Declared No Asset - 03/2007
    Closed - 04/2007

I am not an attorney. My comments are based on personal experience and research. Always consult an attorney in your area to address concerns related to your particular situation.

$300 would be a hell of a deal. I would not expect to pay that price these days and receive any quality of service....

was that in addition to the filing fee? Most lawyers charge that $300 an hour so I'm guessing all your friend really got was a paralegal that typed in the forms for her based on the info your friend gave them?

I agree newday...we used our "family" attorney and he still charged us $800...so I cant imagine a $300 attorney especially now. Also, our case went beyond the norm and we had to have a one on one with the U.S. Trustee so his fee should have been even more but fortunately for us he didnt send us an additional bill. $300 does sound more like a paralegal. Even the worst of attorneys charge $150 per hour. Better check references.

I paid somewhere around 800 for attorney and fee's in Northeast Ohio. I had a very simple case, all credit card debt, and I'm broke (got laid off, now on unemployment). It was a peice of cake for my attorney.

My suggestions are from "personal experience" and research only. Do not consider this as legal advice. Each bankruptcy case is different.
