My contract with Alltel is up this month and I've been wanting to upgrade anyway and add on a second phone for my husband. I am just wondering, since I am an existing customer, will they do a credit check this time around or can I just upgrade? Our bankruptcy was discharged in January and I am paranoid that Alltel will run a new credit check and cancel my account. I really want to upgrade our plan since my husbands knew job will require alot of travel. Anyone know how this works? Thanks!

Thanks, I feel better now. I figured that would be the case, but I tend to paranoid myself. We've always paid on time and did not include them in bankruptcy.
Any idea if I should expect activation or upgrade fees of any kind? I know we will have to pay for the phones, should I be prepared to pay for more than that?
Thanks so much!

We just (as in last Saturday) upgraded our Verizon account to a family plan and it didn't cost us anything but the tax on the phones (both phones were free). If you call them they could tell you if there are any activation charges or if they are running any specials where those would be waived. Also check to see if you can do it online. Sometimes you can find better deals at their website.Yo ho, Yo ho, a pirates life for me

We're with Sprint, and I'm constantly getting offers for free phones and free upgrades. In fact, with Sprint, you're eligible for a new phone every 18 months to 2 years. It really isn't a free phone. It's a $$ amount. If there's a phone available in that price range, you can get that one for free. But if there's a real expensive phone you'd like to have, sometimes you can pick it up for something like $30 or so out of pocket, over and above the allowance.
Since you're at the end of your Contract, negotiate a little. Find out what deals you can get from other Cell phone providers. Then tell AllTell if they wanna keep you as a good customer they need to match whatever offer you've found that you like the best. Whether that be free phones, or lower cost service, or whatever. Get the best deal you can before you're tied up again for a couple of years.Filed Ch 7 - 09/06

I have Sprint as well, had them before cell phones were cool. I recently lost my phone and went and told them and pretty much got one for free (had to sign the new 2 year agreement). However, when I got my bill, had 30 for this, 25 for this....I called furious, but guess I didn't read the fine print. Well, I lost my second phone about 2 months later (hadn't lost a phone in 10 years, then 2 within 2 months...geeze). They wouldn't give me a discount, ect. I left the store, told them to shove it up there butts, and mumbled under my breath that I would just file BK on there ass as well and they could shove the $200 cancelled contract fee up there ass. Then someone called me and had found my phone. So, I'm good for now. But really, after my experience with Sprint, renewal time, they will lose my business.Chapter 13 Filed 4/03/06  341 Meeting Complete 5/11/06 :yes2:
