Has any of you filed pro se chapter 7? I don't have the money for attorney fees and due to the creditors harrassing phone calls, need to file as soon as possible. Any advice would be appreciated.

I am in the process of filing for myself as well. Best advice, buy the Nolo book. Has forms, step by step instructions and helpful hints. Read the what Trustee's look for in a sticky here. It doesn't seem to be too hard, just VERY time consuming and you have to check your work like a hundred times. There are tons of threads in this forum that answers alot of questions too. Good luck!Filed: 08/09/06

Re:self Filing
I Have Been Considering Using One Of The Sites That Does The Forms For You.do You Think The Nolo Book Would Be As Easy. I Know You Are Going To Have To Gather All The Info Anyway. Is It Spelled Out In Easy Form In Nolo?
Thanks!

I decided not to file pro se; however, I compared many books before getting the Nolo one. It literally goes line by line on the forms and gives examples for different scenarios plus the law behind it.
I'm not sure how those online sites are (plus I'm always leary); plus I'm not sure how they would handle it if the forms come back and you keep having corrections.
You can fill them in yourself. There are links to PDF files that you can type into. If you use something like cutepdf, then you can fill them in AND save them. (And save yourself a lot of money).*** THIS IS NOT LEGAL ADVICE--ONLY A LAWYER CAN PROVIDE THAT. ***

Given our experience with a sluggish attorney, wish we would have filed pro-se. I've called the court clerk several times to see when our case will close..etc..she can't talk to us because we have an attorney. Try asking an attorney when your case will close******no response on much of anything after he got his fees. My advice...file pro-se.

Call your attorney and tell him/her you expect an answer within 24 hours. Be firm but polite.Originally posted by bkadvGiven our experience with a sluggish attorney, wish we would have filed pro-se. You don't even have to use the NOLO book if you don't want to spend the money on it. I filed pro-se and didn't have anything other than my own brain and hand helping me to fill them out. It can be done successfully.Filed Pro-se: 01/18/06

Krobin02,
I'm glad you were able to do it yourself successfully. I just know from teaching freshman in college, that so many people just cannot follow instructions and need some guidance and/or hand holding or just same plain reassurance. With so much at stake, I still have trouble relying on the internet for all of my information since you rarely know who published it and when (i.e. old law vs new law.)*** THIS IS NOT LEGAL ADVICE--ONLY A LAWYER CAN PROVIDE THAT. ***
