    medical bankruptcy?

My son is getting married to a young lady that just found out today that her insurance will not pay for a surgery involving Crones' and the removal of part of the intestine. $40,000.00 dumped on this young people is a bit much with a combined income of $32,000. They'll be married March 12 and than moving into a small apartment. They are each living with there individual parents at this time. My son is 26 and the young lady is 24. Her income is about $12,000. What is the best thing to do. They can both handle apartment rent, car payments, and insurance costs. Which my sons will cover her pre-excisting after they are married. Besides the cars they have a combined other owed of about $3,000. They can handle that as well. The young lady has summed up about $3,500.00 on a credit card for after the surgery condition because at that point she knew the insurance that ran out the day after the surgery will not cover pre-exsiting condition. Would it help if she files prior to being married? What do you call it when she file's?
Thank you all for any starting help or direction in this. Right now they are both fairly disapointed.

Have the future wife file BK before the marriage (its less complicated that way).

There is no special type of BK for medical expenses, she will either file a chapter 7 or chapter 13 depending on her income to expense ratio, given her low income, she will almost certainly file a chapter 7.

That gives us a starting place.

Thank you so much Mr. Guru.
