Why so much? All new law attorney fees have gone up, but $2500 seems hi for a chapter 7. Is he a trustee that knows more then anyone else?

$2500 seems awfully high. Our lawyer charged $1000 plus court fees, and the peace of mind was well worth it.

This attorney must have an office in an expensive neighborhood with higher class clients....... then he can charge what he really likes too......LOL

My suggestions are from "personal experience" and research only. Do not consider this as legal advice. Each bankruptcy case is different.

We are filing Chapter 7, and have paid $1800 - we live in MA, and I did the research with different attorneys, and actually found that to be on the low side (most were about $2K to $2500)

When we retained our attorney we paid him $530.00 for filing 13 (included the counceling) that was just the down payment and the rest was under the 13 payment (total of 3000.00) Since then he has decided to file chapter 7, so we have to give him 700.00 more which would make a total of 1230.00 for chapter 7 (which I think this much include the counceling also)
              9/28/06: Filed Chapter 7
              10/25/06: 341 meeting Done!

              1/12/07: Discharged & closed!!
