Well, it just so happens that CIT, a multi-billion dollar financial group, derives billions of dollars in support from Citigroup. While these are different companies, one's finances are intimately connnected to the other. Keep in mind that Bear Stearn's financial issues were not necessarily issues of the investment bank, but derived from those it had investment dealings with.
