As much as this will "hurt" us and the car dealers/sales people...It is kind of like getting back on the right path after bk. For example, we are giving a car up in the bankruptcy which will save us $280/mth. In the meantime we saved some cash and bought a used minivan. We are going back to living below our means so we will have a cash reserve. No more car payments here! In a few years we will be able to buy a newer car and a few years after that may have the option to buy a brand new one for cash if we choose.
There are lots of good used cars out there at good prices if you look!
As far as maintenance, I make time and do most of my own. It is a huge savings. I also recommend finding a small mechanic shop that you trust. AN owner operated shop tends to be more consumer friendly (most of the time!).
