Let's put Canada in charge of the US: they have a deficit-free budget, national healthcare and affordable higher education. Plus, their banking industry, according to the UN is the best in the world (and wasn't wrapped up in this sub-prime mess.) Sure, there's the 15% sales tax, but we can't seem to make the hard decisions in this country to fix things so we might as well let someone else do it for us.

when i read in the paper that the soviet union had callapsed, i could hardly believe it...
shortly after the fall, i traveled to russia, out of curiosity.... what i found, was a place not at all like the media portrayal....if you ask an educated russian what caused the collapse, you will probably hear that it was hyper inflation... rubles went from one to one with the us dollar in the 1970s, to one to 2000...

actually i was amazed how the principles of the soviet union, where the model for current usa lifestyle... yes, political correctness had its birth in the soviet union... many other ideas too, but to tell them would be politically incorrect... in the days of stalin, certain defaming remarks would earn you a small caliber bullet at knvd headquarters...
the media pretty well controls public opinion...

I agree with BigBoy, but the problem is we are part of a touchy feely want to feel good about everything way of life. So no one wants to be the bad guy and tell us how bad it really is and the hard line steps it will take to fix it all. They will continue to tell us what we want to hear and not what we need to hear. I wish someone would stand up and tell the truth, that America needs some tough love to get thru this.

It is ironic considering for so many years we have mocked Canada yet who is laughing now. They beat us in most areas of life. Their living standard, health care, respect abroad, quality of life, education, crime rate is by far better than us. While we are busy worrying about the billionaires paying to much tax, Canadians have a society which gives their citizens a fair go, a fair wage and a good chance in succeeding in life. Sure they do not have the next Bill Gates but at least 99% of Canadians who are not millionaires or billionaires can live a good life. Whereas here we all kill ourselves with the erroneous belief that we will be the next Donald Trump. In reality our average Joes are one of the poorest in the developed world.

we just had hyper inflation for 7 years of bush/chenyonomics...now we are doing hyper deflation as they leave. how convenient for the oil rulers.

it is amazing how each country (world leaders) paint themselves as the perfect country with all others as below them and as the enemy. the media is controlled by government these days which does indeed persuade the public. that is why we keep getting such crappy world politicians to keep controlling the peoples minds & such lousy global circumstances.

I found this quote to be very relevant today... Explains how Barack got elected president.. (Haha)

                The Fall Of A Republic
When the thirteen colonies were still a part of England, Professor Alexander Tyler wrote about the fall of the Athenian republic over two thousand years previous to that time: A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money from the public treasure. From that moment on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most money from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's great civilizations has been two hundred years. These nations have progressed through the following sequence: from bondage to spiritual faith, from spiritual faith to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependency, from dependency back to bondage.
                - Alexander Tyler
