    Remembering 9/11

I recall vividly Tuesday, September 11, 2001. My daughter had just woke up and I turned the TV on. It was on the TV, I thought it was a movie and turned it to Nickelodeon. Within 10 minutes my sister called and asked if I was watching the news. I couldn't go to work that day. I stayed home and watched TV. It was horrifying as you all know. I wonder if my generation will remember this with such clarity as my mothers generation remembered when JFK died.

My prayers and God bless those who were touched by this fateful day 5 years ago. And for our military who are fighting so hard for our freedoms that we take for granted everyday.

Saying special prayers for those who lost loved ones in that tragedy and also for those whose family members are protecting my freedom. Although we are far from a perfect society, I am very proud and blessed to be an American Girl!

    Peace,

I was living in Sarasota at the time....

....very close to where Bush was visiting a school. My ten year old remembers. I did see the towers hit and go down on camera. I can not bear to watch any of the 911 movies. I can not watch death happen twice.

I did wear black yesterday in respect for the lives that were lost. I feel it should be made a national day of respect (not called a holilday) and not a day of work.

I live an hour from Venice where the terrorists trained at the flight school.

There still needs to be more checks and balances in the USA. It's unfortunate that we now have the fear to look at foreigners to our country with a tilted head. That's not right, but neither is our lax security for entry into the United States. We aren't letting our convicted felons out of the country anymore, no more passports, etc...well, I feel we need extremely stringent rules regarding immigration into the states. Sorry, but that's the way it needs to be...also, don't believe that it's the foreigners; it may well be your next door neighber....these are not good days....the general public is so poorly informed...due to issues that would probably create riots across the country if the true state was really known about what's "really going on."

Did anyone catch the 9/11 special on ABC last last? Absolutely riviting! I sat in front of the T.V. and didn't move. Even though some of the events were fictional, it was very good. I enjoyed it.

Basically, it was the "Road to 9/11." It was about the terrorists that enrolled in flight school, talks of their plans, and the threats that the FBI and CIA were getting before the attacks. In a nut shell, it was about the events leading to the morning of 9/11. The last scene was the plane in Pennsylvania going down.

It was very good. Very sad. God bless Disney/ABC CEO, Robert Iger for not capitulating to the Clinton administration attorneys by editing out the facts. Someone has to get out the truth on that disaster. Thank goodness it was the station of Mickey Mouse.

                      Very good movie!!

On that day, I had just woke up, was sleeping with my tv on cnbc and the first plane had already hit. Its weird because before I woke up, I was dreaming about people's names being remembered at a U2 concert, no names in particular, but they were talking about it or something. I don't know if it was a combination of my sleep state and what was being reported on cnbc or what, but it was weird. I was still getting out of bed when the second plane hit, and that woke me up big time. I knew something huge was going on. I had to call into work too. There was no way I was going to miss the news for the rest of the day.

To this day I still tear up when I see families talk of lost loved ones....ya, I'm a big guy who tears up sometimes. My grandfather told me to never trust a man who doesn't cry. Don't know if its true or not, and I don't apply it much, but what man OR woman could watch that day and those families and not cry?
When it all boils down to it, its just numbers! Your credit score, your interest rate, your bank account, and your net worth if you're fortunate enough to have one......is your happiness really defined by numbers?

I usually don't attend church but the Sunday after 9/11 I felt I HAD to go. We went to the church that we always went to when we did go. It's non-denominational and the paster is on the volunteer fire department for our city. He asked the city firemen to come to the service. They were all there in uniform and someone played Amazing Grace on the bagpipes and they had a video of some of the stuff that was on the news from 9/11. There were men SOBBING. The firemen were SOBBING. There was not a dry eye there. The pastor couldn't even speak for awhile. It was the most emotional event I had ever been too. Worse than any funeral I have been to.

9/11 will be a day I will never forgot. I will always know exactly where I was when I heard the news. Every year I watch the specials on History or Discovery. I did not personally know anyone who died that day but I will always remember them and say a prayer and a moment of silence for each plane that went down. You know, I was really surprised. On Monday, I asked my son after school if they had anything regarding 9/11? He said "no mom, nothing". I think they should at least had a moment of silence for the people lost.

                            Miss P,.................

I remember well where I was the day Kennedy was assissinated. 2nd grade. In class. Another teacher came into the room crying. Went up and whispered to my teacher who said, "Oh My God, NO!!" and she started to cry. Then our teacher wiped her eyes, turned and faced the class and told us to get ready to go home. School was being dismissed early. We would have no homework as she wasn't really sure when class would resume.

I was at a friend's house working on PTA stuff for my kids' school when the news came on TV with the aftermath of Oklahoma City. All those years had gone by. Vietnam, war protesting. Nothing so huge or insane on American soil since Kent State. And here we'd had a Federal Building in the middle of the Country blown to bits. Fly Over Country they call us because the folks from the coasts just see us a patches on a quilt from high up in the skies.

I was doing laundry the morning of 9/11. Mom was planning a trip so I was gonna call and check on flights for her when the news came on with the first tower already in flames. Then the news crews got hold of amatuer film footage of the first plane actually hitting the building. When suddenly the second plane came barrelling in and struck the 2nd tower. That's when we knew this was no accident. We were under attack. But no one was saying it out loud.

Knowing that everyone would go their seperate ways on Monday, Sunday evening, we watched United 93 as a family in rememberance of 9/11.

But my daughter really surprised me Monday evening. She was in middle school on 9/11. They had a normal day at school and knew nothing about the horror going on in the world until they got home. The school district had turned on the TV's at the High School but decided not to expose the younger kids.

Daughter and son were on their way to college class Monday morning. They made their usual stop at Mickie D's for breakfast as neither one has time for lunch with their schedules. All the major networks were rerunning footage from the live news broadcasts of 9/11. Daughter tells as she takes a bite of her McGriddle sandwich, she sees a suicide jumper leap to their death from one of the Twin Towers. She couldn't eat another bite.

Daughter had never seen that footage before. She only saw the edited versions that day after she got home from school.

9/11 caused Mom talked about Pearl Harbor Day. How the news trickled in to folks across the country over the course of the next week. Country folk didn't even know what Pearl Harbor was, let alone where.

Mom remembers they pulled out an Atlas of the World and looked it up. Everybody got a geography lesson for the next several years after that.

Places they never knew existed suddenly became place where someone they knew was wounded or died defending our freedom.
