Anyone tried out the gym at their local YMCA?

I tried to sneak into the little gym at my apartment complex. Well, neither of my keys worked (there is new management)...door says they're open from
8am to 10 pm...well I leave for work at 8 and when I get home at 5:30 the LAST thing I want to do is exercise...so...I got up at 5:30 to go over & start what I said I was...going to work out...and couldn't get in...

So, being up, I called the YMCA, asked if I could check it out, went over (2miles from my place) and it was PACKED!!!

Did get on a precor epiliptic & did 25 minutes....and it was the bomb!

$75 fee to join & $40 a month but no year long contracts....this just might be it......

Has anyone else been to their YMCA to try this?

I didn't physically have a membership there, but,...........

The nearest place for our kids' Club Team to swim in the off season was the pool at the Y, 30-35 miles away. I ran them every night, M-Th, to practice in the indoor pool at the Y. We were paying $120/mo for our kids to swim, plus fees for Meets, costs for suits and gear, so I couldn't afford an extra for a Membership for myself. But, several of the team parents did have Y Memberships and would work out while their kids practiced swimming.

The Y had all the machines you could think of. Treadmills, bikes, elipticals. There was a weight room. There was jazzercise. Aerobics. You name it classes you could get into. PLUS, they had water aerobics too. In a warmed pool!! They even had a mini, basketball court to shoot hoops. And there was a walking track around the upper level. One pregnant Mom would swim laps while our kids were practicing with the team.

That Y was a GREAT facility and they had extended hours as well. Open at 6 am and closed at 10 pm if I remember correctly.

Ours is all of the above...and it opens at 5 am!!!

Now I did just get a raise which is an extra $52 a month...which would cover plus the $40/mo fee...plus not spending $4/seven for cigarettes...theres $28 right there alone...it's a matter of reviewing habits and spending where it's healthy for me at this point...if I want to have a few cigs with a couple of margaritas on fridays...not a big deal...I can deal with that but, I would save $104 a months buy not buying cigarettes except for 4 days a month...what a deal! ...just working it all out !!!

The "YMCA" was around a LONG TIME before any of the so called "health clubs" and places like that...........

The new Y's are FANTASTIC....... they have EVERYTHING....... and its still FAMILY ORIENTATED..... not just gender, for kids, or "men-only"......

I'm surprised they are not open 24/7 in the Florida area...... they are in some northern states.....

Many Y's offer karate, and lots of sports...... summer and winter....... In the north they have ski teams, swim teams, basketball, tennis, etc......

Some places teach not only swimming, but boat safety, personal safety for women, etc......
Some have daycare facilities for infants, so adults can DO THEIR THING..... while "kiddo" takes a nap.....

What used to be a small YMCA on the corner is now BIG STUFF...........and the best part - still "family orientated" and "reasonably priced".......

My suggestions are from "personal experience" and research only. Do not consider this as legal advice. Each bankruptcy case is different.
