Don't deposit cash & think it's in your account

...I put $150 in my bank of america checking account on Friday before 2 p.m....believe it or not, it's still held as pending...with the remark "CHECK HOLD DEPOSIT...

When in the f*ck is cash considered a check???? remember the thing I posted on debits with the blog thing...so a word to everyone...

don't ever think that cash deposits are counted any faster than checks....watch your balances...I have not bounced anything as I have not used my account since the deposit

    I couldn't believe it.....

How true........................my house payments were made on the day before the due date, yet my landlords bank didn't post them until 2 days after the due dates.............several times...........

I always get a receipt of the deposit...... but I noticed my landlord put the late date on as the date paid................. I called him and told him - DUH, my receipts say paid before due date on them........... correct your records...... I have receipts also...............

Ya gotta watch these banks.............anything to get a "fee" from you......

Now I belong to a credit union (have for 10 years) and dropped my bank account off after the BK..... no problems with the credit union...... When I transfer money...... its instantly in the account..... no problems, no fees.

not trying to be foul mouthed but....its just so "waiting for the customer to bounce...now that we really know debits come before credits, one would at least think, cash is cash...to the bank, NOT!!!

I guess it goes the same for Cash is King...NOT...

AMIS, we understand. B-O-A are B-A-S-tards. I use Eastern Financial Credit Union. They are in Florida, are BK OK and have been great. If they have a brnch near you, by ALL MEANS use them. No minimun, few fees.

When we moved here, Hubby's company had a Relocation Assistant help us get landed on this end. She screened apts for Hubby moving here ahead of us. She also had contacts with Banks and she set us up to meet with a Bank person to open an acct here. Stuff that would have taken us several days was done, POOF, in a few hours.

The Lady that opened our Bank Acct for us here is a Vice President. She gave us all kinds of bells and whistles we didn't fully understand at first. One thing that she stressed to us, is our deposits are "immediately available" to us. The Tellers at our Bank Branch have said the same thing. And, not being in the Banking business, I didn't get what the big deal was.

I finally found out what that means. Immediate Access to funds. I can go to the bank and deposit a check. It has to be before 2 pm to be "Same Business Day". I can't take cash out at the bank, but I can go shopping and have access to our funds. As long as the Debits are time coded after the time of the Deposit, there's no "Deficient Funds" charges assessed to our acct.

And we do not bank with BoA.

I have been with BOA since 1991 when we first moved to FL...my employer's checks are drawn of BOA & I have direct deposit right now with them...I so do not want to switch to another bank...but may be driven crazy enough to do so.....

They won't even give us paper deposit slips at my branch on the island closest to home...told the tellers myself...this crap won't fly on Longboat Key now would it? As in those seniors will tell them off...and I"m sure it's happening at my other branch as well...they want you to deposit the cash into the atm's instead of inside at the teller....why bother having humans work, right?

OHHHH...I could scream about this....I don't even want to use the ATM as a debit or credit anymore...easier to use my cc...don't touch any savings until the cc bill comes due.....

The FDIC regulation CC sets the standards for banks and credit unions concerning availability of funds. In summary it encourges banks to make funds available the next day unless fraud is suspected. Local check are available the next day. Cash, government checks and cashier checks are covered also. Every other check is considered out-of-territory, and they can hold them for about five days.
This is true for all accounts that have been opended over 30 days and do not have a history of overdrafts and returned checks.
Get a copy and them go to the offending bank as most tellers only know what they are told.
                I hope this helps.

                  Thank you!

I went to my bank on Longboat Key (think snobby but they are nicer than my branch in Holmes Beach)...

They told me, when I put my cash in on last friday, if it was before 2 p.m. (which it was), it should have been available that afternoon, night, whatever!

                  UGH!!!....

my receipt from friday says, "12:57 p.m."....

My boss says that they want to eliminate teller transactions....ATM would have had money in at midnight...well, what if it got robbed, how would I have even been able to prove what cash was in the envelope?

UGH...and more UGH....why have a bank any more if there's no need for tellers...what are "they" going to do with all of the banks they've built?

I could go on & on.....we've got more banks and bars in my town than we do jobs...

Wow that stinks.....I love our bank..Amcore bank (Illinois). When you deposit cash it is available right way (same day, within mins) Checks normally take one-two days. My hubby's direct deposit is available at 3am on payday.

One thing I noticed is they used to have the sign that transactions after 3pm, are on the next business day.....now they changed it to transactions after 5pm!! cool!.....LOL

Another thing which is nice, I noticed is our bank had this "cushion" of up to $500. If a debit, POS, or check is presented to our account, AND our deposit has not cleared yet, they will pay any charge, up to $500, without any fees. So we never have to worry about money not being available.
