Drivers also work for tips. A lot of limo companies are adding the tip to the bill. Depending on the company, some employers take ALL the tips & use that to pay the driver his base pay.

yah. they do not want the turn over so they like to keep their good waiters.Originally posted by BKOnce View PostAny employer does not want his/her employees quit often because continued hiring is such headache & costly. So, tip is their big issue/concern too; otherwise, ...their servers will strike/walk-out/lazy/quit/don't-care/screwup, etc... well, you got the message...

ROFL

spit on the food...step on the food, spill cokes on people, drop cottage chese in their lap etc. etc...

No because tipping does have it's place. A tip is motivation and reward for good service. I just don't belive that wait staff should be paid less than minimum wage simply because they get tips. They should get minimum wage and then give good service for their tips.Originally posted by Bandit View PostDo you think the law will ever change for waiters base pay? to the point tips would not be custom?Filed: 10/26/2006

Case-in-Point ==>> A hair dresser or hair cutter earns more than minum pay already,... but still get handsome tips (from customers) for "smoothing/caressing/brushing/detailing/perfect" their hair, etc.

Oh. I see what you mean now. I never thought of it totally in that sense because the base pay was so low that I always felt like I was groveling many times to survive. I agree that would help the whole issue out if they were getting a better BASE wage & the TIPS were more of a motivation as in TO INSURE PROMPT SERVICE and not just your total income.Originally posted by JollyGG View PostNo because tipping does have it's place. I wonder if the 2.00 an hour is just there to make sure the government gets the tax because I rarely saw an actual paycheck. That was usually in the negative.
I am still trying to figure that out as well. There are a lot of jobs like that & they still get tips, but not waiters.Originally posted by BKOnce View PostCase-in-Point ==>> A hair dresser or hair cutter earns more than minum pay already,... but still get handsome tips (from customers) for "smoothing/caressing/brushing/detailing/perfect" their hair, etc.

Easy to see... With foods, most people will easily forget fast when they reach full stomach...
... but with hair/nail, the good effects/appearance are still lingering for days (i.e., nice hair, beautiful nails, etc.) that make their friends/co-workers/family say/compliment =>... "Wow..where DID you get that hair dude..."!??

Yah. Kind of like a lack of respect for your delicious food and the service where the new hair gets longer attention. Maybe it is a pride thing.Originally posted by BKOnce View PostEasy to see... With foods, most people will easily forget fast when they reach full stomach...

I often felt like people look down on restaraunts yet at the same time they sure do like to sit down and eat, relax for an hour or two when they go out. Then they forget.
