More old memories come flowing back from the 60's and such.....

I got to meet most of the original astronauts (Grissom, etc) that 1st started out the space program..... they all trained at WRAFB. I got to see the inside of a space capsule (training one). My dad worked on base (high security clearance - head mechanic on flight line) so as a kid and teenager I meet astronauts, saw the inside of Air Force One (when Kennedy was Pres). Have been inside c-135's, B-52's, super sonic jets, and have sit through training sessions for pilots and crews in the simulators they use to certify them (my boyfriend was a flight instructor). Loved it....... so interesting........

WPAFB in Dayton was where the original space program started. All their training took place in underground tunnels at the base and in the new fancy traiing jets, etc..... This was all long before Houston existed, and while Cape Canaveal (can't spell) was being built.

I had many opportunities that other kids did not have, just like you.... and I consider myself very lucky that I did get to do all these things.

They are all nice memories to look back on....

You know the memmory of Walter Cronkite coming on TV and announcing that White, Grissom and Chafee were dead is still clear as day to me. I was sick from school that day. My dad being a vet and very patriotic the Space program was followed in our house.
