Anyone have and/or switched to GEICO?

I got a quote that was about 1/2 what I'm paying now...(yes, I know the whole apples to apples thing...) and wonder how the service is, what I really need now in FL, that we may not need the PIP (whatever that really stands for...as down here, doesn't matter, most people that hit you don't have insurance anyhow, or they're on drugs/booze driving someone else's car w/o insurance, so it will be interesting to see what really happens after 10/1).:

We've had Geico for many years and have never had a problem with them or their service. We switched to a different company briefly around the time of our BK but once we filed THAT insurance company raised our rates based on our credit score. Geico didn't care about the score (or at least in 2005 they didn't) so we went back to them.

The secret to being happy with your insurance company is paying your premiums on time and never having any claims.

      But seriously...

The last time I shopped for insurance my credit score was much better than it is today. I have Allstate and back then Geico's rates were higher than Allstate.

One of Allstate's provisions is they won't raise my rates if I have a claim. In fact, I had a $40,000 Suburban stolen from my driveway and nothing changed at all.

At some point I got a quote from another insurance company (I think it was American Express) that actually beat Allstate's rates. I asked about rate increases due to claims and they had a provision to automatically raise your rates for three years after a claim.

Well, a single claim with the other insurance company and the subsequent increase in rates would have wiped out more than seven years worth of savings due to the lower rates.

I figured the odds were pretty poor and I stuck with Allstate. You should ask those kinds of questions too.

      ---

Now I live so close to the border that when I stand at the end of my driveway and look South, the buildings I see beyond the end of my street are in Mexico.

I had a new vehicle stolen a couple of years ago and my credit score is melting away as I continue to ignore my credit cards. Pretty soon I'll file bankruptcy and everything will be perfectly crappy.

I don't think Allstate will be my friend any more and I expect to go shopping for different insurance myself.
Discharged November 2008 100 days after filing no-asset Chapter 7. We intended to let a two-year-old vehicle go back to the bank and reaffirm an inexpensive ten-year-old SUV and our home mortgage. In the end we surrendered ALL of our vehicles and reaffirmed NOTHING. We'll "ride through" our mortgage after the court ruled it an undue hardship.

I have GEICO and they are great. I hit a car a few months ago and they paid the other car owner right away. No rate increase and they don't care what your credit score is.

I haven't had any accidents since 2002, thank god, knock on wood...I'm going to pull out my policy with progressive after I get some things accomplished & then redo my quote with Geico. I pay $100/mo. currently with Progressive & would love to knock some $ off that, if possible.

I have a 2000 Toyota 4Runner & I don't know if it's better to keep theft & collision on it or not? I do live in a very safe neighborhood so that's no problem but I've not had a car this old for this long and really don't know much about what would be good to have or not...

          Help?

            Allstate

I have Allstate and have since 1990. I wonder if they will increase my rate once I file and the credit score really hits the tank? The one claim I had recently was the other guy's fault (drunk, on drugs, smashed and totaled my legally parked car!) but I had to deal with them then because the guy was in jail and his insurance company wouldn't even talk to me until they talked to their client, who presumably didn't use his one phone call to give them his side of the accident story. Anyhow, they totally low-balled me on the book value for my car, and I thank God I had gap insurance or I would have owed thousands on this car that was totaled. And they screwed me this way (I didn't really owe more than blue book value, they just used very different calculators to get to the value of the car than the rest of the world does) even though they were going to get reimbursed for everything from the other guy's insurance! I've been thinking about switching companies ever since, but since they are also my homeowners policy holder, and that gets paid through escrow, it seemed like too much work and inertia took over. But I can easily see them jacking my rates after being a very good customer for 17 years once I file...

              wooisme,

I have had Allstate for over 30 years.....my son totaled his truck, my vehicle was stolen and totaled and I filed bankruptcy in a 15 month period and my rates never went up.

I've had Geico forever and like them. Then again, I've never had an accident.

                  Oh God No!!!

Being a caveman I could never switch. I am loyal-not like that idiot ex-friend of mine at the party. Yes having Geico does make him less of a caveman in my eyes.

I'm beating on my hide-covered drum with a bone as I utter what appears to be a language. Changed to Geico years ago. I cut my insurance by 40% (had Farmer's, I guess I changed from gatherer to hunter.) Geico never even pulled my credit report. Probably a good thing now, since in my state an auto insurer can only pull your credit upon the initial application for insurance. I also have an excellent driving record. Had a $1500 comprehensive claim a while back and they never blinked an eye at covering it. They are a very high technology intensive company, and I think their use of technology keeps their overhead at a minimum.

                        Allstate

$$only4ever, thanks for the info, makes me feel better and have more hope that Allstate won't be jacking up the rates once I file. I hate having to deal with the insurance company, I've had very few claims in my life, but all have seemed to be very unfair. It seems like to me that especially if you are not at fault, that you should not be penalized financially for an accident, or else why am I paying for "insurance" in the first place? but that's just my naive view of the world....

I switched to GEICO after 10 years with AIG. AIG hammered me (one at fault claim for $294.00 and i refused my $600.00 damage claim check in the same accident) post BK. After refusing the to accept the claim check they lowered my ratess for six months, then hammered me after a credit check, HATE THEM. GEICO nearly one year. Happy. My wifes car door got nailed in a "no fault" accident in a parking lot (double parked). We took the car to A1 Paint and Body in Coral Springs Florida (that is GEICO's guarranteed place) and from repair to rental to three minor issues after the srvice from GEICO and A1 has been great.

GEICO has a desk right there, Enterprize Rental is close and just an easy experience. Very glad i upped the Rental deal with GEICO, max that out, it was only about 10 bucks a month extra.

In fact I just got back from A1 for the minor items. Great service. (that was at about 505 pm)
