We started looking approximately 5 months before we moved. The townhouse community approved us and put us on a waiting list because we wanted to rent a specific model. We were locked in on June 1st. The former tenants moved out 07/31/07 and we moved in on 09/01/2007. With private landlords I am sure that it is a quicker process.sigpicPersevere: "To continue a course of action, in spite of difficulty, opposition or discouragement."

About a month and a half
We started looking about a month and a half before our lease was up and everyone told us we were looking TOO EARLY and the owners wouldn't hold properties that long. I thought that was crazy since most people need to give one month notice to their current landlord (we didn't since our lease was ending). We ended up moving out of the area though because I was offered a great job, so we only ended up having 3 weeks to find something and move. It was stressful. Good luck!Filed Ch. 7 Pro Se: 12/11/08

Do any of you have a hard time renting with a new BK and or foreclosure? That is my main concern. We are terrified that we are going to end up in ghetto after we are discharged. We are staying with my parents right now and they said that they would allow us to use them as landlords (we are paying a small amount of rent). Maybe that would help....

I have an old BK Ch. 7 discharged Feb. 2001. The first place I rented after that I had no problem. That was in June 2002 and I had reestablished some good credit at that point. But I have bad credit now and renting has been problematic since I left that first place. I always have to leave double deposit. The hardest time I had was when I recently moved. I have good rental history, but some places don't even look at that they just automatically reject you cuz of credit. It was frustrating, but I just kept looking. I found a private owner and told him up front about our credit and he rented to us without running our credit. We REFUSE to live in the ghetto because of our kids. Keep looking, something will come up.Filed Ch. 7 Pro Se: 12/11/08

when you go to rent they normally do some background check to make sure you have not broken previous renters agreements, non payments, etc...unless it is a top of the line place you are renting, i doubt they will care to much about your BK or foreclosure., they will probably want job verification and income, if you have no past rent problems, then youOriginally posted by ad_25 View PostDo any of you have a hard time renting with a new BK and or foreclosure?
