I know if the house you are buying has a tax lien against it, the tax lien has to be paid before the house can be sold............. its a lien against the property.
But I don't know about if the tax lien is on YOU....... Some banks or mortgage companies would require that it be paid before they would finance anything for you. It's a debt on your part that has not been paid and until it is, they will not offer you more credit...... if what I'm thinking.....

My suggestions are from "personal experience" and research only. Do not consider this as legal advice. Each bankruptcy case is different.

We currently have a tax lien on our property. We are surrendering it as part of the bk. MY attorney has assured me that the back taxes will be discharged with the mortgage - the taxes will still need to be paid, but not by us. When we surrender the house, the mortgage company becomes responsible for the back taxes.
I don't know if that helps you or not, but it's the information I was given.
