    Beds & Our Christmas Gift

I've always been big on having a good bed. I believe it is the most important piece of furniture in the house. I don't need a fancy headboard/footboard - just a good bed. My old good bed went to my ex-husband and my new good bed was too small for us both (both sterns & foster beds). And I believed that Sterns & Foster was the best bed out there.

For Christmas, my mother in law bought us a sleep number bed (she is very generous). It was my husband who really wanted it and we did need a new bed (king size). I didn't even know what a sleep number bed was. I had a traditional bed all picked out at a depot place for 1/2 the price they sell in the store (again, another S&F).

Anyway - I gotta say, I'm impressed - big time. The thing is ridiculously comfortable (for what it is - basically an airbed). We both have the option to adjust our own sides according to our comfort level. It's pretty cool.

It was a very nice gift to receive and I'm lucky to have such a nice mother in law.

That's a cool gift. I've thought about getting one of those. DH wouldn't go for it, though, because he's stuck on keeping the one we already have (which is a nice bed.... just has stains from my son's potty training accidents)

One thing I didn't know is that the price of mattresses is marked up so high - like the price of jewelry. My DH's grandmother works for Rhodes Furniture and we got a deal. The price tag said it was almost $6000 and we got it for $2500. (wholesale price)

    Congrats on the gift.

I've heard nothing but good things about those Sleep Number beds! So nice you got one for Xmas.

My bed is 24 + years old and has dangerous springs poking up everywhere...I pretty much have it down how to manuever around them but I still get scratched now and then.

I thought about charging a bed to Macy's shortly before Xmas (before I concretely decided to file BK) because I have a zero balance on that card. But I didn't and now am glad as that would have been considered a luxury fraud item I think.

My first purchase post BK is absolutely, positively, gonna be a big comfy bed. Nothing fancy, not a sleep number, just a good comfy mattress and box springs with frame. I have no frame now and my mattress keeps shifting to the right. I am looking forward to new bedding more than anything.

So, again, Congrats on the bed. I will sleep vicariously through you for the time being.

The last time I "bought" a bed was about 10 years ago. I was getting married and Macy's messed up my registry so I got 7 extra sets of Lenox china at $125 a pop. I returned them for a store credit, used $250 in gift cards, went there on president's weekend sale, and then opened an account for 10% off. I wound up getting a $4000 bed for like $100 out of pocket.

I keep looking at those sleep number beds but I think I'm gonna wait a while - at least until all the babies are a bit older and no one is sleeping in my bed with bottle of formula and pampers...

My bed is 30 years old but still in very good condition. I have always rotated it on the bed and flipped it over, over the years. No lumps so far, lol. It was top of the line when I purchased it.

But I also have a featherbed on top of my mattress (love my featherbed)...... have had one for YEARS.... always loved my grandmothers featherbeds. Also now they have the hypoallergenic ones you can buy if your allergic to down...

Would like to have one of the adjustable beds since I have asthma. Its very hard for someone who has asthma to sleep laying flat, it's better if their head is raised.

Yes mattress are extremely expensive these days. They figure you won't buy one but every 20-30 years so they make them very expensive......

When this thing is over one of the first things I will be getting is a decent mattress.
I've had back pain all my life, and a good mattress really helps with health and well being. I don't feel I can pay for one in the 2000 dollar price range. We have a place where I can find decent deals.
