    Here Comes The 'ice'......

    Oh Yeah,

Here we go again with another "ice storm"............
Calling for up to 1/2" of ice before tomorrow morning....
    How thrilling is that???
Just what I wanted was to be stuck at work during an ice storm and then "slide home".....
Last ice storm we had electric was off 8 days, trees were down, etc...
Hopefully this one won't be as bad.... at least I hope not.....
I'm ready for it though, fireplace ready to lite and backup kerosene heater to stay warm....

    Been there, done this before...............

Where we live in WI, we've had 76" of snow this year-to-date.

Last year, we had 16" ALL WINTER!

Oh yeah, we had an ice storm last week that left 1/2 - 3/4" of ice, then it snowed 9" in the same storm. Still trying to get the ice off my driveway.

Minny, why the heck do we live in this climate again??

We have been hit hard this winter too. I feel bad for my kids- they want to play in the snow so bad but all we get is ice. A few inches of some regular ol' snow would be welcome right now. Sounds like you are prepared for the worst- stay safe and warm!

        I feel for you guys.
But then, you don't have the traffic, crazies, and over-population that we have!

Ahhhh, we're used to it, it's just a part of winter here.....

It's really nice to cuddle up to the fireplace, pet the dogs, and watch it snow...... (course you have to call in sick to get away with doing it around here)....

Winter wouldn't be winter without some snow and ice.

I lived in Georgia for 10 years and never even had a coat on..... strange for Christmas and New Years....

Give me my cigs, pepsi, dogs, and dog food, and a warm fire and I'm good to go for a long time...... lol

I have gone through more salt this year than I have in 10 years combined. I am afraid of slipping and falling. My friend fell a few weeks ago off the steps and broke his leg and ankle in 15 places and now has a limp with screws, plates & rods for life all because he would not get rid of the ice on his steps.

An elderly friend of mine fell on the ice last year and broke her hip and was limping for the whole year.

My telephone wire is still laying across the driveway and yard for two weeks now from an ice storm. The stupid girl on the phone says, "It is ok if you drive on the wire, it wont hurt the wire."

            Um?

Someone showed up a few days ago from ATT and said, "I am not equipped to put the wire back up." He said he will have someone different come out to hang the wires.
Then I get a phone call from a computer recording saying the repair is complete.

            Um?

This winter has been colder than normal in SoCal.

Yeah on the getting home okay...... I'm a pro on ice and snow.... no wimps live at my house.

Last nite it started raining (cold rain), but its dissolving the ice quickly and this morning a lot of it is history......

I too worry about bustin' my A**, and breaking a hip or leg, but I'm really careful when I get on the ice.... Sometimes you can be too careful and cause yourself to take a flying leap. A couple of years ago I was real careful going out one morning, (too careful)... slid off the top step of my deck and busted my brains out on the deck and about broke my back. Learned a real good lesson (don't go out that way!).... use the other door. I bet I laid there 10 mins saying "I've killed myself"...... Talk about sore for a week and bruised up. My head had knots upon knots on it....

That ice is a lot more dangerous than snow. I'm safer driving on ice then I am on walking on it....

But do try to be careful walking and driving both... and have had LOTS OF EXPERIENCE driving on both.

A lot of the people I work with won't touch a vehicle if there is ice on the roads..... me I just get out and go...

Ahhhhh, love this climate..... 60 degrees one day, sub-zero and ice the next......

                    Minnie!!!

I can picture sitting by the fire, petting the dogs & watching the snow fall (been missing if for almost 16 years), but....It's 79 today, a bit humid and I'm thankfull to be in FL....

...however, I did use my fireplace between Dec. 25th and Feb 1st...it's gas and my house has no heat....my gas bill was a whopping $98!!! now that was for a few hours a night maybe 10 times.....you know who blew out the pilot as not to be tempted, regardless of our next cold fronts!

                      Amislander,

Gas fireplaces are expensive to use..... I still use wood.... which is cheap and easy to get around here. (National Forest)...
I sure do love my fireplace, I lite it up 1st thing when I come in the door at nite..

Helps keep the electric bill down too...... total electric is expensive too.

Mine isn't bad though, $90-125 a month summer or winter and some months $60.00. I do not let my furnace run 24/7. I turn it off when I leave the house and turn it back on when I come in. The house temp only drops 8 degrees no matter how cold/hot it is and I'm gone about 10 hours a day.

My neighbor runs hers 24/7 and her last bill was $280.00.......
DUH - I would shoot myself......!!! She has a fireplace also, but won't use it - lazy.

I've thought about gas logs, BUT I too am afraid it would be very, very expensive with as much as I use my fireplace.....

Ahhhhh the price we pay for luxury.....
