I have a beautiful golden retriever named addison whom I share custody of with my wife. Its a wonderful dog who I have spoiled and it refuses to listen to me. I still however love this dog very much

        TatteredinTexas,

Beautiful irish setter......love them. Years ago I found a home for a stray irish setter. Starved to death when she came to my home (course my pregnant shepherd didn't like her)... the setter was preg too, we just didn't know it. Found her a home on a farm with kids....man said the babies would be a nice experience for his kids and they kept 3 of them..... all beautiful irish setters.
Had I not had my White Belguim shepherd I would have given the irish setter a good home...
        She was beautiful....

i want a dog, but dh says i can't till we decide where we are gonna be. I want a small dog, doesn't have to be any particular breed. Not a puppy but an adult dog. I went to the local shelter, and all they had was very large dogs and puppies. i guess i will keep looking.

Back in 98, I saw a small 3 line ad for 2 dogs..Well, I called and they said the dogs had been abandoned. I got their home address and took off..Oh heck.."Look before you leap" hey?

After 85 MILES of driving, I finally find the place (I was new to area) and saw what they had. Both males, then funny thing was they either didn't know how to check the sex of a dog, or were too embaressed. As they said "One was a female" soooo..I said "OK, I'd take them"

These people were the nice type, on disability and yet, good enough to feed a couple of starving dogs.

So, I head home (After a fill up) and hit the local vet. $135 later, I walk out and then to a pet store after another $100 I finally get home.

Now, it's 7 years later. They have been joys (And some funny/scary moments) in my life and I am glad I made that long drive to save 2 from an all too brief life.

Some people ask me, how I feel about the previous owners..I reply.."No, I don't care to kill them, just give them a couple taps on the knees with a baseball bat and then let them crawl to medical help"

Yes, I may be nasty, but I'd at LEAST give them a chance, not that they did for the dogs I took into my life.

Great story! If i had room for the larger dogs i would adopt a whole slew of them. And i wish i could adopt puppies, but i don't think i would have time to get them potty trained. Sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh i just want a dog.

Just lost my pet of over 12 years, a albino frog appropriately named crackhead. He had translucent skin and beady pink bulgy eyes. Named him that after he started eating all the fish in my tank. That sucker get out of the tank, he was truly an escape artist. Used to have him in my office at work until he escaped one too many times. I could sear he knew my voice because when I came in and would talk to him and he would be all over the tank. (no, I am not crazy, I have taken two psychologicals since having him, work related requirements).
Have had 2 chinese pugs, boykin spaniel, a cat named moonshine and now we just have one cat, my grandson has named Bruce.(he names everything Bruce).
                      Animals are a great comfort.
I'll be watching, you may never know when or how, but I'll be there. I am there now....

My daughter (11 yrs) and the schnauzer we found a couple of months ago won a Halloween contest today for most original costumes. They were dressed up as cats! The dog will now need therapy for an identity crisis, but they were cute as buttons..lol.

They set on the couch, watch tv, play in the yard, eat steak and potates, and sleep in a feather bed.

Mine don't now what the word "dog" means.........
