    Parris Island

Son number 3 leaves at 3am monday morning. He has been in DEP for 13 months. I am told by those returning from BC that the training in the Plantation Office is likely the best on the East Coast, that very few recruits were so well prepped. Most who came from other Delayed Entry Programs were still utterly unaware of what they would face. One fellow showed up with a civilian suitcase complete with a bathing suit! He has had Physical training 3 days per week, can run six miles without a break and does the three mile run in under 20 minutes. he has been taught his general orders and knows rank structure. These Staff SGTs. held Barbeques, outtings and brought the kids together in a unique way, they have pushed and dressed down over grades and screw ups nad have addressed issues with bullies, etc... at school for those without fathers. My hat is off to them, they have prepped those who made the choice in an excellent way.

His MOS is ordinance, he did well enough to pick Aviation but refused after arguments at home. he loves machinery and weapons.

Tell him we appreciate him too! My husband went to good ol' Parris Island as well - and later Viet Nam - spent a total of 7 years in the USMC before he got his college degree and got out. God bless them all. Freedom is certainly not free.
