    Count Your Blessings

I have watched the news this week about the flooding of the Mississippi and the fate of all the people who lost their homes and business because of it.

MY HEART GOES OUT TO THEM!!! They have lost EVERYTHING but their lives.
Their lives will totally start over NEW in just about everyway materialistic. They have NOTHING.....just what they could carry out with them.

I think back to when I filed bankruptcy. Yes it was scary, nervewrecking, caused panic attacks etc. And yes they seized my home and sold it (yet I was able to buy it back with the help of friends and neighbors).

YES I COUNT MY BLESSINGS..... and bankruptcy was hard on me, BUT NOTHING LIKE how hard it is on the folks involved in all this flooding.

They have lost everything but still have the bills coming in each month.... Many lost their jobs and their home, family photo and momentos, clothes, etc. And on top of that, no place to live in the meantime. And I'm sure some lost family members and pets also in the outcome.

Homes all underwater, business where they worked under water, schools under water, and etc.

Devistation I don't think that I myself could handle mentally (I know it would be extremely hard to stay sane).

This flood has been compared to the floods of 1913. And its still not over and more rain is expected.

Yes, I count my blessings.......... I still have my job, my home, my pets, my belongings. All I lost in filing bankruptcy was my debt and a year or two of bad credit.......

Am I the lucky one or what????

A thought for the day.... especially when you day seems to be REALLY BAD....

It is sad for the people. I've wondered if as LA state government failed to do did IA and IL lawmakers also skip needed repairs and upgrades to the system.

This will affect all of us. No telling how much corn we've lost and IA grows a large portion of what is used domestically. With high prices already its gonna impact us even harder.

I hope and pray some of these people had some savings or insurance that they can help get on their feet with.

Sad part is that this flood area covers over a mile over the banks of the river. Many of the homes were probably not in a regular flood zone area.

Flood insurance in and around a major river is expensive, and many of the poorer folks probably didn't have flood insurance.

Sad situation...... really bad if no insurance!

And yes, this will affect all of us too. Much of our crops come from this area, so get ready to see the change at the grocery store......
