    Anyone ever dealt with FEMA?

Our one year filing (Chapt. 7) anniversary was on May 31st. We were slowly building ourselves back up and were actually doing pretty good...

June 4th...DH was in a serious bicycling accident. Doctor said he should have died that night due to brain hemorrhaging and a bunch of other injuries he sustained. But...he beat the odds! He's still in the hospital but doing so well that the doctors are calling him "Miracle Boy."

June 7th...I returned home from the ICU about 8:10pm to find our basement flooded right to the first floor of our home (it's a ranch, so I guess that would be the ONLY real floor of our home). Our home has been deemed un-inhabitable by the village building inspector. Homeowners Insurance bigwigs have already denied our claim.

We are alive and still have some of our belongings so I feel very lucky.

I am just curious if anyone has dealt with FEMA before. Hubby will be out of work for who knows how long and my hours just got cut to about 20 per month. Our credit scores are still not very good so I am wondering how on Earth we would be able to get a loan to repair our home (let alone make loan payments). Also, how long does the whole process take? I am already filling out the loan papers. I'm lost on all of this and the FEMA faq's don't really answer anything in detail.

I am afraid to say anything to our mortgage company because they made us sign a reaffirmation agreement that states if we are one day late with any payment they can opt to foreclose on us. If they heard the home is completely trashed (no hot water, furnace, cracked and crumbling foundation due to the pressure from the saturated soil and the flood water itself) they would just decide to take it from us right away.

Life is so full of surprises isn't it? I thought going through bankruptcy would be the biggest nightmare of my life but eh...I think all of this pretty much tops that.

Like the name says...Never Ending Story

After the Katrina fiasco as few years ago FEMA by now has straightened out.
