We started making our own pet food. You can find great recipes. I don't really think it is any cheaper than the cheap food but it is cheaper than the expensive food. I aways know exactly what is in the food that way.

My wife found a brand of food called Merrick's for our two dogs. We went to that from Canidae after we found out that it was purchased by a company who had a history of its product killing pets (sorry the company name eludes me). Plus they changed the recipe of Canidae as well. In addition, my wife supplements their dog food with rice, sliced carrots, and sliced green beans. They eat better than I do. No wonder they are such fat little porkers!
