Rising Gas Prices

Folks...this isn't the politics thread...if you want to discuss this sort of top please post in the Politics thread or create a new one to continue your discussions. With that said, I'm hearing that gas prices will reach $6 before summers end.

Self preservation is a chief human behavior. Most immigrants here still love the countries of birth but left to better themselves and childrens lives. That doesnt make them any less Indian, Chinese, Russian or whatever. The fact is when the going gets tough, people will do what they must to survive. I dont find Pizzas post Anti American. One can be American and proud, with opinions and ideas other than the status quo for whats considered AMERICAN. What makes America great is VARIETY in all things and the ability to express them.
Just my thoughts. I dont want to ruffle feathers.

Funny thing is, this is a BF forum if "back in the day" you owned a nation money and couldnt pay they KILLED you hell in some parts of the world that can still hold true.

I see. I'm afraid America is in for a brutal surprise.. it's soon to be the new Mexico.. sooner than later, Mexican immigrants will be the only ones left who consider their quality of life better. Everyone else (that has any sense) will want to leave. All this patriotic, proud-to-be-an-American stuff will take a back seat to the pursuit of the lifestyles we were once accustomed to. After all, when it all comes down to it and illusions aside, we are all just surviving on pieces of rock sitting on water... when conditions are more favorable on another piece of rock, we'd hop on over to that one. Self-preservation, dude!

My V8 was on "E" this weekend so I had to fill up the tank...it cost me $70.00 to fill up the car. This particular gas station had a $.10 spread per grade opposed to the usual $.5 spread.

HI Pizza. Well, there is the North American Union deal. Some people think that that is one reason why the economy in the USA is going the way it is-so citizens will agree and even ask for the North American Union as a way to compete and defend against the EU and China (Asian Union).

Just recently the African Union was formed.

Regional governments, then a united world government. That's what some people think.

As for leaving, a lot of Americans are moving to Costa Rica and also the Philippines.

But you certainly raise some good questions. There's a whole lot going on that we don't know about.

So here I wonder... if the United States is transitioning into a socialist government (like it or not)... won't there be millions of Americans rushing to countries like Canada, Australia, Britain and South Africa in order to avoid the harsh transition? Obviously other world economies are doing better and they have nothing to change... and is it possible they'll see it coming and shut the doors in our faces basically?

The days of cheap gas are probably behind us. The problem is our government and its unwillingness to stand up to special interest. It has been 35 years since we built a refinery, and in fact half as many refineries are in operation today as their were in 1985 in the United States. It has been over 30 years since we allowed exploration for oil in our own territory.

While I am all for alternatives and we should have long been working on them it makes no sense to take food and turn it into fuel. The United States provides more food aid to the world at large than any other nation, but recent policies have endangered that supply and may cause widespread famine and death in coming years in the world's poorest nations.

Even if we perfected the hydrogen fuel cell tomorrow, we don't have the necessary infrastructure for it to take the place of oil. It would take 30 to 50 years to replace the current infrastructure to the extent necessary for it to replace oil in every US household.

Short term we must drill in ANWAR and off the pacific and atlantic coasts, long term we must continue to look for alternatives such that in the next generation we can be energy independent and pull all our troops home.

Hate to burst your bubble but drilling in ANWAR is not a short term solution- it would take roughly TWENTY years to develop;drill and bring to market the oil at ANWAR to market and many have questioned the impact ANWAR would have in terms of proven reserves. This whole oil mess is a combination of many different factors- US government failure to have a successful energy policy; emergence of China and India increasing their oil consumption; you and me- US is the single largest consumer of oil- yet we have roughly 10% of the worlds population (??)

The dollar continues to loose value. I read an article about a week ago and the article asked the question "Mr. Bush, why is oil so expensive?" The article said oils is not expensive but our dollars is not worth as much. Why is our dollar not worth so much? It is because we are spending a huge amount of money on 2 war fronts.

Our local paper is saying that public transportation is going up in price. This includes bus and trolley.

Yeah. We just came back from running errands. The store closest to us has unleaded at $4.07. I was so shocked--though why I should be, I don't know--that I failed to notice the diesel price.
