Safe End of Holiday Season, PLEASE!!!!

Okay, now that most everyone is awaiting their discharge in one form or another, let's all have a very safe end to the 2005 year.

If you're planning to party this weekend, please, do not drive after you start and do not get in a vehicle where the driver is under the influence. Here, in FL, they have been arresting people not even over the legal limit...

Please, enjoy the end of the year in your manner of preference, but do it safely!

I'm off at noon to start my holiday weekend, finish up the Channuka gifts and just plain relax....Season's Greetings to everyone!

Please don't drink and drive. Its not worth it. Someone will come and get you. Be responsible enough to make plans beforehand even if you don't plan on drinking......
I'll be watching, you may never know when or how, but I'll be there. I am there now....

      AMen!

We always do NY Eve at home. Might be a very small gathering-DH's sister is the only one I know for sure coming over. (My sister & a friend, and their families, aren't sure yet due to work schedules.) The basic rule is no one leaves until if they've been drinking.

New Year"s Eve Party at my home every year!!!

House rules (my rules) You drink - YOU DON'T DRIVE - you let someone else drive or your staying here for the night - I'll make you up a bed (can sleep 12).... plus the floor....

Argue with me about it - and I punch out your lights!!!!

All keys are submitted at entrance to party.... you don't get them back unless Momma D says - OK.............. You refuse to give up your keys - you don't party with us....

Been doing this for many, many years and works well for all of us.....

That way, I don't have to worry about someone leaving my home - killing themselves - or someone else - because they were partying at my house on New Year's Eve...

Everybody that's going out New Years - have a designated driver - BE SAFE - AND LET OTHERS BE SAFE FROM YOU!!!

The life you save - may be your own - or that of a child....

        Happy New Year's Folks,

        Minny

We don't have extra beds (just one loveseat, but its a dual recliner). Anyone is welcome to sleep on the living room floor though. My sister in law has napped on the couch before-but usually gets up around 4/5 am to go home. She only lives 5 minutes away, but that is how seriously we take it. (She has to go home to take care of her dog.)

One last rule-if you get sick, expect to clean it up yourself.

If you feel ill - you better run for the front yard.............!!!

Last year at 3AM we had 3 asleep in my bedroom floor, 2 on my bed, one in my bathroom (hugging the toilet),2 piled up on the couch, 1 on the front porch asleep (yep it an it colder than crap outside), and 1 sleeping with Minny on the vent in the floor. Party lasted till 7 am...... talk about people that enjoy partying...... this bunch does....
They kaeroke in their sleep........ but they enjoy theirselves... No problems, no arguements, just a great evening together....

My BW (anybody remember the gossip columnist Earl Wilson? Always referred to his wife as the BW. those were her initials, but he almost always used it to refer to her as his "beautiful wife"...just sounds so much better today tha DW) and I are planning to go to church. One of our churches is having a "Healing Service", Since this is a mainline Prot. church, it will prob be more of a psychological, spiritual healing service , rather than laying on of hands for physical healing.
After this,we will prob. come home and open a bottle of wine that we bought on our anniv. trip last April and watch a movie.
For New Years Day, we will have Pork and Saurkraut (an old family tradition from my family for good luck. Maybe even have some Black-eyed peas. We didn't have our pork and saurkraut last year and look what this year turned out like.
Do any of you have any "good-luck" foods that you eat on New Years Day?

DH's family do the sauer kraut & smoked sausage. They're from PA, and it definitely is NOT a southern tradition. 2/3 of my kids love it.

Staci, my family is from PA as well and that's where I picked it up. The neat thing to remember is that if you can't afford a roast, that a kraut hot dog works just as well. Art

And as of today, I have a head cold so I won't have to smell the sauer kraut! (I do NOT eat it.) DH cooks it in a slow cooker-so the smell lingers for a day or 2.

My Mother ALWAYS likes them...Took me 10 years to also learn to like them, but when I did, I do my best to always share with Mom.

New Years meal: southern fried chicken, *real* chicken dripping gravy, mashed taters, pinto beans, collard greens, cornbread, tossed salad and peach cobbler. Hopefully, there will be enough food for at least 2 days worth of meals and lunches.

New Years eve: probably stuff to make sandwiches (tuna fish, egg salad), veggie tray, bean dip, etc.
