    Sinkingfast,
Do yo live in a house, condo, or apartment building? Do you have a sewer line? Or a septic tank???

If you have a septic tank..........before you pay a $250.00 bill, make the landlord SHOW YOU when the last time that septic tank was pumped out!!! If it has been several years and you have lived there a short time, then the bill is the landlords......... Infact, check your lease and SEE if it includes repairs to the septic system....or maintenance.

Landlords, no matter where they live, are required by law to maintain septic systems on their rental property..... Its a health issue and health hazard.....

If you have a sewer line to the main road, then the responsibility is the landowners for keeping that line open....and clean....

If you live in an apartment/duplex/condo, it could be anyone's line clogging up the main line - backing up the rest of the lines...

Check the lease you signed - see if it contains info regarding the repairs on septic or sewer lines.
If it does not - then tell your landlord, read your own lease and weep - your the property owner - I'm not paying to clean out your septic lines!!!

My suggestions are from "personal experience" and research only. Do not consider this as legal advice. Each bankruptcy case is different.
