    AmEx Bluebird

Does anyone know much about the new American Express Bluebird accounts? I just saw it advertised on TV so I looked it up online. It looks good, but I'm not seeing an interest rate anywhere. Anyone else know? Or is there no interest rate?

i saw it also. looked interesting if you need to keep track of your expenses and such. it reminds me of an easy form of quicken.

we are lucky now and really don't have any expenses to keep track of thankfully! that is other than the regulars...electric, mortgage, insurance etc. but i do all auto pays so it's easy. but that system does look interesting.

Be sure to read the FAQs (link at the very bottom) To see if this is right for you. It appears to be a variation on a prepaid card. There are some charges unless you use direct deposit, and the direct dep. can't come from a govt. source; i.e. unemployment or soc. sec. Also noticed you can link this card to a debit or credit card, (kind of like you can with a Paypal debit card) and there is no charge to do this now, but there will be in 2013.

I thought it looked a lot like some of the online banks I've seen. Just wondering if they aren't calling it a bank to avoid interest.

It really is pretty much a checking account without FDIC insurance. It will not rebuild credit. If I were considering it, I would compare it to a checking account with a debit card.
