Just wanted to give a heads up on what I have gone through in the last three months dealing with them.
I had a loan through Art Van with Beneficial, which is a branch off of Household, based out of Illinois. I included this in my Bankruptcy, and fought with them for a long time about several things they were reporting wrong including a.) my name (misspelled, and a wrong last name) b.) that I still owed an amount to them and c.) that my debt was charged off and NOT listed in BK.
To make a very long story short, I went to the Attorney Generals' office in my state, the State of Illinois, and the State of Virginia that Beneficial's headquarters are in. I got no response from the latter or from my state, but Illinois did help me out.
Household's initial response to the IAG, was to send a copy of all of the communcation that I had sent them in the last two and a half years. This did not set well with me, and I told the IAG about this, and wanted the case resolved quoting, and sending a copy of the FTC letter about charge offs AFTER Bankruptcy. After three attempts to re-contact Household, they refused to admit wrongdoing, and would not correct the listing to my credit report. The IAG then referred me to a lawyer's office in Illinois to handled this.
Household found out about this, and today I logged onto TrueCredit. Transunion, and Equifax have completely removed the listing. Experian is still showing "charged off" but the payment history (which was also showing late as of last week!!!!) is completely gone, and there is now a notation that the account is IIB. Household still will not contact me, and are still refusing to admit to any wrongdoing.
Anyway, they did at least clear some of it up, and I got it off of two of the three, so I guess I am going to be happy and move on from here. But be forewarned that this may happen to you, and because of this, I am considering getting rid of my household cards, even though they are some of my oldest tradelines.
