AMEX sucks

I had an AMEX corp card before my BK and several years with past employer no issues always paid off on time. Anyways after my Ch 7 discharge even 1 year later these clowns refuse to issue me a new card. So they suck in my book.

Filed Ch 13 in August 06 and still have my AMEX card. I have been a cardholder since 1994 and never missed a payment. I figured after I filed that AMEX would cancel my card...not yet if they are going to. When I filed I made sure that I had a $0 balance and did not list them. I hoped that if I could keep my AMEX account that it would help me quickly rebuild my credit...it may be working. In September, 06 my credit score was 513. I checked again last night and was shocked that my score was 663.

Watch...I'll probably get a cancellation notice Monday

My first Chapter 7 Discharge was in 1996. I got my first Amex in 2002.

I wasn't a AU. I was the primary. It does count based off your previous statement as indicated in the previous quote.

My response was specific to Amis. I recommend you not continue to go around and hijack threads with irrelevant information. Myself & others simply tried to save Amis from the waste of inquiry & effort by applying for an amex fresh out of bk. Everyone knew that she wouldn't get it and so did you.

It wasn't a hijacked. It was an attempt to point out that you can get a Amex card after a BK. Nothing more.

while you may be able to get one after bk. I dont think you can if you included them in your bk. You filed, then got the amex 6 yrs later.

Depends. I've had my Amex card for only a few years and my Ch7 was just discharged and closed a couple of months ago - they didn't bat an eye. The key is that they were NOT included in my list of debts. Since there was no balance on the card there was, in fact, no debt and no reason to list them.

But as far as the OP is concerned: right, don't bother.

Give it a moment they're going to close your account soon, people have stated the same thing they didnt add amex they werent owed anything but the fact of a CHP 7 being on there report there card was closed soon afterwards when amex does there routine check of there customers credit reports to see if there eligible for offers or upgrades and once they get a hint of u chp 7 u will be gone as well.

Sorry, but wrong again. I just requested and was approved for an increase in my line of credit w/ Amex. I've also heard from a number of others who successfully kept their Amex through BK by not listing them - some of whom have had it for many years since their BK.

Amex usually grants credit line increases without a credit pull. It doesn't mean that if they do a period review of your credit that they won't close your account. Just be careful, pay your bill on time & don't exceed your credit limit, and you may be one of the lucky ones to skate under the radar.

Amex kinda pushed me into bk by doing this random pull. They saw my balances were high on other cards and cut my limit in half (while with an amex there is "no limit" they will stop you at a certain point) meaning i was unable to use it for day to day expenses as I had been doing. Never late, never missed a payment.

Yep, they do random checks. Look at your reports and you can see a pattern of "no pattern" to the pulls
