    Chase Really IS Dirty!!

Well I guess we all already knew that. And was why I closed my last account with them many years ago after paying it in full. But now I have one of their cards again because well, after bk beggars can't be choosers....
    But heres my latest experience:

I get my chase circuit city visa statement, and sent it back out with payment the same day (luckily). 2 full weeks later, THEY SEND THE PAYMENT BACK TO ME, with a letter saying I didn't write the account # on the check.

I look at the payment slip and at the check. Sure, I didn't put the account # on the check, but its on the payment slip. And nowhere on the payment slip does it say to write your account # on the check. Furthermore, I dug up the statement and it also doesn't say to include account # on check. And why couldn't they just write the account # on the check themselves?

So I call and they tell me to take the payment to a circuit city store. Which the closest store is almost downtown, an hour away from my house. I drive all the way down there, and they won't take the payment either. They called chase from the store and told them they won't take it, and so chase does a flip flop and now says ok yeah they don't take payment in store.

So the associate asked the chase rep to note my account that payment may be late due to no fault of my own. The chase rep says no because you can just go pay online.

I go home and try to pay online. I can't logon to the website all day which was why I didn't pay online to begin with because the website was having problems.

So off I go to the post office to overnite the payment. Hopefully this 5th attempt to pay my bill will work this time. I wrote the account number on the check twice, and circled the first number and put an arrow pointing to the 2nd number. Just in case writing it down once isn't good enough.

Don't think I'll be using this card anymore. Hopefully someday I can get better accounts so I don't have to rebuild credit with these clowns anymore.

I remember years ago, chatting with a gal at a party. She worked for a payment processing center. She processed payments for Chase, Sears, you name the Creditor.

Chances are, Chase never even got your payment to begin with. Probably a payment processing person in some 3rd party company somewhere.

I remember this gal telling me people would send in checks without the statement stub. No acct number on the check. Chicken scratch hand writing she could barely make out which Creditor the check was made to.

This gal would take the person's name and address, enter it into the computer, and see which Creditor was billing that person thru their Center. Then she'd apply the payment accordingly.

And, here's the kicker,................ When the Center employee gets done processing your payment, they toss the stub into the trash or a shredder. So even the Creditor has no physical record of receipt of your payment.

If that's the way they still do it,........... Isn't that wild??!!

As a general rule, you should always right account numbers on checks for everything, not just credit cards. Things like utilities and even medical bills. It's way too easy for the payment stub and the check to get separated. I'm surprised they sent it back, but I guess it happens.

Did you try making a payment on the phone? I think those post immediately. Every card I've had offers that option. It's always one of the options on the menu when I call for customer service.

Makes me wonder what we are doing to ourselves, just because we all filed and are trying to rebuild, do we really think we are now financial geniuses, yes we have learned alot on how these corporations work, all the nickle and dime schemes they pull, the collection games etc. Are we all getting suckered into this again? Are we having problems with learning control? I too have gotten credit since closing, but really am questioning why I think I have learned to do it right (if there is a way), maybe theres more to learn? Just as a side note I am not having problems with credit now , but just don't want to get in that mess again.

You make a good point. But unfortunately, having good credit is becoming more and more important by the day. I won't be fully satisfied with my personal credit until I get all 3 of my fico's into the 700's.

So true I guess, maybe being in debt is the only way to get ahead.

Duh. Of course. I bet it's less than a late fee. And it won't report against your credit or cause an interest rate increase.

Who said anything about being in debt. Use your credit and pay it when the bill comes.
