I subscribe to TrueCredit and ScoreWatch (myFICO.com) to get my credit report updates and score updates. My pre-filing FICO was 450, and it is now up to 544 per today's update. I am so pleased with how my score has been improving, the improvements have mainly come from correcting my reports, but some are due to "heavy credit usage not hurting me as much anymore".
My question is: Since my credit has been improving without obtaining new credit, should I not get any new cards and let it improve on its own? I apologize if this is an ignorant question, but I'm so afraid that getting a new card will hurt it since it has been improving naturally. I know there is more to credit health than just your score, so am I putting too much into the FICO score? My ultimate goal is to purchase a new home, so I want to do what I can to reach that goal.
Thanks so much for your advice!
