    Discharge questions...

I'm expecting a discharge this month, and I'm build to start repairing my credit. My question is, once its discharged will it show up in my credit report as discharged?

Yes, the public record on your credit for the bk should say "Discharged". Also, the negative items on your credit that you included in the bk may just say IIB or they may say "Discharged thru BK".

What is important to ensure is that the activity on all negative items stops the month you file. You want to start the clock on the time since negative items occurred, so you credit score starts rising.

You may have to write alot of letters to the various bureaus though. The discharged status doesnt always show up automatically. I was discharged thru Ch. 13 in 2006, and I am currently correcting my reports. Many of the accounts do not reflect the discharged status, and the general discharge (public record part of the report) only showed the 'filed' status and date. Be prepared to mail the credit bureaus copies of your discharge and your creditor matix, and ask them to update all your accounts. So far, I have had good success in getting everything corrected.

Just be aware that the process can take a while. First it will take a few months for the discharge to appear on your credit reports. Wait about 3 months after your discharge and obtain all your reports. Then start disputing as necessary. If you dispute items too soon, those items could change back to old information (as we have found out) and then you have to redispute them. Don't be in a rush - we were discharged from Chapter 13 in 8/06 and are still having issues with several items on all three credit reports. What we discovered after discharge for us is that several creditors put something in there under a section "date first severe deliquency was reported" and listing dates in 2007! Where that information comes from, I do not know but we have been successful in getting it eliminated. Take your time and don't be in a rush.
