Frankly there's not a thing these companies do that you can't do yourself, including disputing errors. No company is ever going to care about your credit score as much as you do, no matter how much you pay them. And also there's the problem that most of them are rip-offs besides.

The only companies I've personally heard anything good about are Lexington Law Credit Report Repair and Veracity Credit Consultants (do a forum search to read posts about them from members that have used them and check both companies out online). Both are going to cost you plenty (a $99 signup fee and a monthly fee of $40-$90 depending on the level of service selected to boot) to do what you could do yourself, but it's your choice about how to spend your hard-earned dollars after filing.

There are many, many scam artists operating in this space, so it's truly buyer's beware if you decide to use a company to better your credit score.

I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.

Each reporting agency allows you to dispute your credit report for free online. Very simple. They allow you to look at your free credit report three times online for disputes in a specified amount of time for free, after that you have to pay. Each company charges about 10 bucks a month for full access to their credit report allowing you to easily keep track of changes, and allowing you to quickly dispute them. They try to lure you in with more expensive packages, but this is all you really need.

Requests for a free report can be made
by calling toll-free: 1-877-322-8228 or by
          visiting annualcreditreport.com. (Note:
This is the only authorized online source
to receive a free credit report under
          federal law.
          Be careful: there are other
unauthorized or scam websites that may
          look or sound similar.)
