Where do I start on rebuilding our credit?

We were officially discharged last month. We started out as a Ch 13 and right now our credit report shows that we filed Chapter 13 on 12/06.

It doesn't show our Ch 7 conversion but all of our accounts show to be included in CH 7 proceeding.

We reaffirmed our home and we've always payed that on time so it reports positively.

I have a car that I did NOT reaffirm. The note is very, very high and the gas mileage is sucky. I'm going back to college in January and I need to buy something cheaper and more economical in December.

Is it possible to raise our scores any before than? If so how? Also the CH 13 that's reporting on our credit doesn't show it's discharged. They will eventually update that so it shows discharged right?

    Thanks Everyone!

One issue you will have that could probably hurt you is that you initially filed a Chapter 13 in 12/06 which, if you stayed in the Plan, would be off your reports in 2013. Now that you have converted to a Chapter 7 and filed in 4/09, you will now have the Chapter 7 on your records for 10 years, coming off in 4/2019.. You will also have two BK's showing eventually; the Chapter 13 with the changeover to the Chapter 7. Once you file a BK, it's on your reports. What you will need to do to hopefully offset all this is do not be late with any sort of payments on anything. Be careful as to obtaining credit and racking up inquiries on your credit reports as you will surely receive denials. The further you are aware from your Chapter 7 discharge date to the time you try to obtain credit will work for you as during that time you can prove to creditors that you are on the road to recovery and are demonstrating your creditworthiness.

    Best of luck to you...

Okay I signed up for a free trial of True Credit through Transunion. Is that good or is there something better? It says our score is 650. It gave me reports from all 3 credit agencies and they all now show that we have only one public record and it says it's a CH 7 that was filed 12/06 and has been closed and discharged on 7/27/09.

My only problem I really see is that on dh's Experian it has his date of birth wrong and also lists 2 aliases for him. One of the names it lists is just his number with JR. added to it. The other has a completely different last name. I'm assuming I need to fix this right?
