Hello everyone.... I've been discharged from chapter 7 for a year. I'm in the process of rebuilding my credit. I have 2 Capital One cards I got after discharge as well as an auto loan through Capital One which I got after discharge. My question I have is that I had a lot of credit card debt I included in my bk chapter 7 (American Express, Discover, Chase, CitiBank, BOA). Just curious if any of you have experiences with getting credit cards with these companies after including them in your BK.... if so how long it did it take? I'm not in any rush to get any more credit cards but just curious down the line. Thanks.

Some companies have Black List which means you will not be able to get another card with them even after the BK has fallen off your reports. Amex is known to have a very long memory. From my knowledge and the ones you have listed.
Amex (Long memory, Blacklist)
Discover (Varies case by case)
Chase (Vaires case by case)
Citibank (Blacklist if it was a non store card)
BOFA (Blacklist)

I've read much about blacklists post-BK. Does anyone know if a creditor will blacklist you if you didn't discharge debt with them? I was an Amex cardholder for years. Filed BK and didn't have any outstanding Amex debt (yep, I was a "cardholder", not a card user). I really don't need/want another Amex card; however, I'm curious.*Filed: September 23, 2009 *341: November 4, 2009 *Discharged: January 4, 2010 *Closed: January 20, 2010

As other posters have stated, there are some creditors with which you will not ever be able to get credit with again if you included them in your filing...Chase is well known to be one of them. There is no guarantee for anyone with a BK on their credit reports as to what credit they will be able to obtain or for which they will be denied. Some creditors just see the BK on your credit reports and will not extend credit no matter what the circumstances or credit score. Note we are over 3 years past Chapter 13 discharge and the BK was reemoved this past April off our reports. We obtained a Walmart Discover card and Discover was one of our creditors at filing. We also have a Citibank Visa which was obtained shortly after discharge and I have an Orchard Bank Mastercard which I obtained rigiht after discharge but will be eliminating over the coming months as I used it only to rebuild credit and to rent vehicles or for vehicle repairs and they will not eliminate the yearly fee even with my credit score in the very high 700's. We have sufficient credit and only obtained what we need and use it wisely. Time is your friend after discharge...just do not get credit just because you think getting a bunch of cards is going to help you. Only get credit you need and can afford to pay back quickly and not get caught back in the credit trap. Best of luck to you.Originally posted by ndawg27 View PostHello everyone....
